Sinister: philly phrustration, the domestics, toronto pub ignoramus
i had such a great time this weekend that there is not even an ounce of bitter feelings about the cancellation. everything else was perfect. i picked up my tigermilk tape from the post office on my way into philly, so i heard it for the very first time on my way the show (thankyouthankyou, you know who you are). the weather was great, so waiting outside for two hours was nothing like the tortuous ordeal i had expected. my sister's bus didn't get stuck in traffic, she made it on time and she met me waiting in line exactly as planned. i got blue shirts, in XL, no less. i spent the small hours communing with wonderful sinisterines. i've got nothing to complain about. it was nice to see the outpouring of goodwill, but i can also understand the bitterness of those who invested so much. if you weren't frustrated and disappointed, there is something wrong with you, but these feelings are not really directed at the band. bad things happen to good people. i was there, but i didn't have to drive five hours and the episode is not putting me in risk of coming up short for the rent. i also have a new york ticket, so i have another chance, for which i'm very grateful. we cannot judge the band because we don't know what went on behind the scenes, but we might suggest, for future reference, that anything would have been better than nothing. a lovely alternative would have been a performance by the "domestics." that would be mr. kitchen and ms. house who are at home while belle and sebastian are touring the wild west. scheduled for release on jeepster next month: the "apron" ep, thirty minutes of katrina hoovering and david clinking glassware in the sink. killer stuff, i hear. it is easy to be forgiving and magnanimous if you weren't at the show and heard about the cancellation via an email. also, if you're condemning negativity and selfish behavior on this list, you're just preaching to the choir. i doubt that the perpetrators of boorish behavior and reprehensible demands in the trocadero crowd are on this list. oh, yes. i will be in downtown toronto tuesday and wednesday and was wondering if anyone could tell me about an interesting pub or where the good record shops are. hopefully, i will in a mood to celebrate a significant victory in my kafkaesque dealings with the u.s. immigration machine. where is this public library bar? where is there a shop with a proper selection of indiepop records? any advice would be appreciated. -goon k.- ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net". I thought a lot of the magnaminous response to all this WAS from people who'd travelled a long way? That's really what I meant. I can think of at least two mails in that category, and from memory a lot more, all people I would now pull from a burning car if I wasn't a coward. Having said that of course, if it'd been me travelling all that way, I'd have cried like a baby and be still sulking now. So please don't think I'm saying no-one should have a gob on. I'm just pleased other people are more grown-up than me, it makes me feel secure :) I must say though Scott, I've always preferred caring for those you love above leadership skills and sometimes you have to make hard decisions in upsetting circumstances that leave you open to criticism later. I had a bit much of the leadership skills from Mrs Thatcher. Just a comment. honey x +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
