Well, there are some bands that thrive in the live context..others do not. Not being fortunate enough to see B&S yet, I can't tell you. However, all bands tighten up over time, and as I understand it, they haven't had an incredible # of shows yet. As for changing instruments, it depends a lot on their own resolve to making the show flow well. The last time I saw Tortoise, they had an instrument change between every single song, but managed to make it flow well.
