Sinister: Last night's test chat
Last night's chat was my first encounter with the world of chat rooms, and, although I was only able to be there briefly, it seemed like a laugh. Paul (or whoever else knows the answers to these questions): 1. how many people joined in? how many from the list? (I thought it was funny when that death metal fan stumbled in, attracted by the name 'sinister'!) 2. how long did the chat go on? 3. did the link-up between the two rooms go as you had hoped? 4. all systems go for a full-on 'meet the band' style chat at some stage then?
Is there an argument for setting up more regular times when a few listies will be around in the'Sinister' room? When would suit people?

1. how many people joined in? how many from the list? (I thought it was funny when that death metal fan stumbled in, attracted by the name 'sinister'!)
Total guess - about 25.
2. how long did the chat go on?
Hmm - 30 mins for the official chat? It's hard to judge when you're frantically giving people voices and taking them away, and fighting off wandering goths and ChasM's... The REAL chat, i.e. mad and wild gossip went on for about 2 hours probably, everyone sloping off at 10-10:30ish.
3. did the link-up between the two rooms go as you had hoped?
Yes, surprisingly it seemed to be sort of OK. A little more thought required on the final details. My main worry is that the band won't be able to handle it quite as quickly as David and Katrina. But we'll see.
4. all systems go for a full-on 'meet the band' style chat at some stage then?
Looks like it. Chat with David and Katrina tonight to see how we're doing.
Is there an argument for setting up more regular times when a few listies will be around in the'Sinister' room? When would suit people?
Yes - great. 8pm GMT sounds like a good time for most UK and US people - Wednesdays (hey that's tonight :). US people feel free to organise something else in the dead of the UK night. But watch those phone bills - mine is going to be colossal... Paul P.S. To reassure those who can't take part - don't feel you're being disenfranchised. The chat room is very different from this list and anything goes except when the organised chats happen. The only action taken in there would be to remove any non-Sinister people who come in and flood the channel with streams of rubbish trying to take us all offline - it does happen v occasionally. So it's pretty chaotic and fun, but not a substitute for us talking here. I'd appeal to people on the mailing list to keep those non-chatters in touch by explaining references to chat stuff..! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
