Sinister: three, six, nine minutes alight
I was just looking at Johnny Rogan's contribution to that series of livres de poche about the total oeuvre of a band. Christ, it must have been the easiest book to write in the whole history of writing. Anyway, loads of second-hand info, but I found a thing or two I'd never seen before about 'The Queen Is Dead'. 1. Marr played a 'one-take solo' which left him 'shaking'. Is the solo on the record? Maybe; maybe he means the instrumental journey at the end. Would you have been shaking after playing it? I would. 2. He was 'fantastic', playing 'blindingly... he went on for 8 or 9 minutes', says Stephen Street. 'There was loads more on the 24-track but it seemed a bit long so we cut it down'. 8 or 9 minutes as against the 6:23 (?) of the record; or 8 or 9 minutes extra, unused material? Should it have been cut? Should an uncut or recut version be released? I think so. I mean, the master tapes of all these old records all still out there somewhere: witness 'Classic Albums'. Someone has got to make a programme on this and play *the entire 9-minute guitar track*. Agreed? ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org.
