Sinister: No Jugs To Speak Of
The bus fares went up by five pesetas here a few weeks ago. I had mixed feelings about it, because it's a nice round two hundred pesetas now, instead of the more unmanageable one hundred and ninety-five pesetas that it cost before. I didn't think it was worth mentioning at the time, but seeing as transport costs are reportedly the new rock'n'roll, I didn't want to be considered square or anything. Is anyone who was quoted at the end of "Young and Foolish" going to Betty Trotwood's Pub beofre the Camber sands do? If so, perhaps they could do a kind of spoken word duet with the Duke, thus pushing back the boundaries of popular entertainment even further. Am I the first person on the list to have had a dream about The Visitors (apart from Tim)? I had to do a Gram Parsons duet with Tim, but just before it was time to go on, I realised that I didn't know the words, so I hid in the bogs, where there was a massive jobby that hadn't been flushed away properly. The reason I'm reminded of the e-mail section of the Good Book is because I'm about to disagree with Stuart G, who wrote: The music press are always going to stereotype B&S fans as being all the same, even though it's blatantly not true. It's the same as the way they make up genres and subgenres to describe what a band sound like, and lump in with them other bands who sound completely different. It's just lazy journalism. Get used to it... Hmmm, well, yes, BUT...I think it might be lazy journalism to call lazy journalism lazy journalism. After all, they are only giving the public what they want, and "Belle and Sebastian fans are like any other fans really" isn't a good enough story, people would FLEE to rival publications, where they can find their desired diet of dross and dromedary dung. B-sides, that Time Out article was based mainly around an interview of sorts with Beepster Records, who seem to have decided that it's more "fun" to play on all the myths and nonsense surrounding the band, a bit like Alan McGee with Oasis, only more polite and less shagging and fighting and sticking two fingers up. I think it was a rubbish article, full of fibs and clap-trap, but I enjoyed reading it, so thanks to whoever sent it in. Don't want another Melonballs incident, do we? Yesterday I went to a cat show and it was full of fur-fondling freaks. Record fairs are tame in comparison. I've got "Show Case" by Jackie Mittoo. I recently suggested that "The Roulette Story" was perhaps a little sub-standard. I was a bloody fool, it's great. Can't wait for THE GENUFLECTING WEEBLES album, THE GREEN FIELDS OF FLOELLABENJAMINLAND. Petrol prices go up on April 1st, so FILL UP beforehand, or be square. Hiya! Well I went to the post office today and found a completely pretentious magazine called sleazenation hiding behind Womans Weekly! That cheered me up, so I had to buy it. Has anyone else read it??? Its so funny! Every other page is a Levis advert, they have an article on bathroom scales and Salako are namechecked as well! "noel fielding is a Pop Boutique boy, all flared jeans and tight tops amd Mott the hoople hair. He's good looking and cheeky and looks like he should be in a shambolic glittery indie band like Salako or something" (salako, more than just a band, but a fashion accesory, a musical hairclip. ah the fenomeno de londres even though I bet I've not even got the spanish for phenomenon right. Its hard enough spelling it in english...) But they seem to like add n to (x)...well of course they would. They've got an article on the Olivia Tremor Control! Wahey! But they actually talk about "places where chips are commonly eaten" in a disdaining tone...and also say WE SCAN THE GLOBE FOR NEW MUSIC! And found this London based record label need I say more HEM HEM. And they have agig guide to Paris? I'm quite happy, burning pies.... well you see pies have lots of calories= lots of energy = equals a nice strong healthy flame. Who wouldn't be happy burning pies? DOH! Not another comedy mishearing! Jarrod San Angle, do you write for a small magazine which no-one ever buys? I'll tell you what record I bought recently...NO I WON'T cos I haven't bought any. But I've been listening to Dr Strangely Strange. And I've heard the B-52s covering Downtown...which I'm glad I heard but has left me rather worried...and this is completely changing the subject but are't GOMEZ utterly and COMPLETELY CURMONDEGEONLY????
