Sinister: selfish me
Its entirely selfish of me and I didn't want to post about it but like Nick said, I guess I really DID want to post about it. I just have to offer some contrary opinions about Pink Floyd. Peter hit the nail on the head about the Syd days of Floyd. They became dull and INNOCUOUS after Syd left, writing about thematic cliches, in my opinion. When compared to what Stuart Murdoch has to offer, well, I just think Stu's stuff is just more original and less contrived. Though, maybe he didn't quite succeed with the last album. Duh, its still better than most stuff though, blah blah. Same for Morrissey. Compare it Dylan's elaborate and expansive use of symbolism. Maybe these are unfair comparisions but you begin to realize how weak all the 70's Floyd really is. Plus, the music is equally the same for me: it doesn't make me feel any kind of emotion whatsoever. Not that I'm all hung up on lyrics, though. Hell, I can't even carry on a conversation. I feel free to offer these opinions as I went through my Pink Floyd listening, pot-smoking days as a college student. I've read the lyrics. I also read the lyrics to a lot of other bands, too. And Floyd's are trite in comparision. Although I do think that Alice in Wonderland thing is spooky. And if you think I'm unfamiliar with the subject because of what I have written then its because I suck at writing. I'm an accountant/programmer for God's sake! Okay? Personal Note: I should be more sympathic to all of their 70's stuff that had ties to insanity because my mother is a paranoid schizophrenic (I'm one of the 0.25% in the world who has a parent who has schizophrenia). Its nice when people talk about it without embarrassment and no stigmas exist. Before you even say it: I know! I know they wrote about other stuff too in the 70's besides insanity. Celeb thread (I aims to please): I went to New York on Mem day weekend and went to McSorley's - oldest bar in New York City. Cool place with all kinds of old pictures and thingys on the walls. You have to order in rounds, no single or double beer orders - very cool. Anyways, we partied with four players from the Metro Stars there. They were having chugging contests with every female that tried to go to the bathroom (their table was directly in front of the ladies toilet, I should say). They were having a bachelor party. Those guys were a lot of fun and they made the place fun for everyone. On second thought, forget all that. Soccer players in America aren't really considered celebrities. Heck, I didn't believe them until I looked up their pictures on the Metro Stars website. Anyone who hates money or the pursuit of it should mail me all of theirs. Thanks in advance. How IRONIC is it that Dark Side of The Moon is one of the biggest MONEY-MAKERS of all time? Oops, sorry Magda. Enjoy your picnics. I'm calling one for myself here in Pittsburgh. Saturday 1PM: Point State Park in Pittsburgh. If I don't show up then I'll assume no one came and then I'll have to leave. I'm bringing apple butter because I can get the good shit. hardy har har - nice weekend everyone (and you Floydheads, too) Warm fuzzies, PR +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the undead Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org.
