Hi Left Handed Ones Arab Strap's new album, Philophobia, has the following names amongst its guest musicians: Stuart Murdoch (piano), Chris Geddes (Wurlitzer & Hammond Organ) and Sarah Martin (violin) who play on the second track, Soaps. (Chris also plays on the first.) As to the album, its more interesting than the first, but to me a bit disappointing compared to seeing them live where the addition of a rhythm section makes for a more meaty sound than just the two boys and the beat box. Also, somehow I suspect that they didn't pause and think of Sir Cliff before committing some of the lyrics to paper/CD! That sounds more damning than I meant it to be - I like it really! haven't had the honour of seeing them live yet, but know what you mean about the sound... there's that Hobbs radio live set where they play 'My Favourite Muse' into 'Clearing' and it's just so amazing, especially the guitar lines that go for the sun like Television or something... and yes, the recorded version of 'muse' is less striking, but then again, i has a restrained magic about it. Whatever, i do think that Philophobia is a great record, and suggest that the B&S album will have to go some to better it... Also got mAssive Attack's Mezzanine (not the one Elvis walked up onto i dare say...) yesterday but feel much less impressed by it... perhaps it will grow. the duke -- Tangents On-Line http://www.virtual-pc.com/tangent/ PO Box 102, Exeter, EX2 4YL, UK tangent@lineone.net ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
