*---* HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINISTER BABIES *---* The poetic Scots' last two albums veered between genius and dubious, and this, with songs written and performed by various members, is equally mixed. Highlights: the title track, a glorious handclap-ridden romp, Dirty Dream #2's orchestral sweep, Isobel's fey, folksy Is It Wicked? and the uber-B&S opener. The expected musical nods are made to Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Charlie Brown and Arab Strap but lyrically this LP is less inspired than previous releases.
