Sinister: A crack in the pavement
On the subject of walkmans: Once I was walking and listening to radioheads "ok computer", and just as gorgeous Thom sang the line "you watch your feet for cracks in the pavement", a person in front of me slipped in a crack in the pavement. It made me smile. I'm smiling all the time nowadays because a band at the record company i work, Poor Rich Ones has been nominated for the counterpart of Brit awards/Grammy here in Norway!! I've already started to make a speech, and I have to buy a new frock......:):):)
What do people think are the worst tunes for getting stuck in your head? My boyfriend kept yoodling Bee Gees "You win again" all morning. Not a good idea!!!! Elisabeth Z

It must have been a very big crack if someone slipped into it... On the subject of books, I'm not a great reader, but I would recomend Nick Hornby's "High Fidelity" to anyone. It's about being obsessed with music, which I guess we all are, and being obsessed with love, which I think most people are. Whenever I read it I find I would think and do exactly the same things in the same situation, and so do most other people I know who've read it. I don't know how, but it seems to convey what people (and particularly men) think better than any book I've ever read. The Lightning Seeds - you may not think of them as anything other than a 'perfect pop' band, but they are incredible live, there's so much energy in the performance. Add to that the fact that whether you know it or not, you will recognise and like every song they play, and it's a great night out. My God! I actually agree with Northy on something! sappiest book i ever tried to read, and no mistake. i wanted to throttle the lead character, and every other character come to think of it... couldn't get beyond the first third. shite. actually, worse than shite, just too bloody obvious predictable bollocks. i'm in a shite mood this morning. great books what i have just read: Raymond Chandler - anything by this dude is cool. Style seems to me to be in the Salinger vein... this ain't just 'crime' writing, it be classic literature that you can get a kick out of. Yum. Tim Pears: In the PLace of Fallen Leaves. this is magic... it's set in the heart of Devon in the heat of a loooong summer and it's, um, well it's dead downbeat and beautiful and oh, just a delight. JAne GArdam said it was 'full of love that doesn't cloy' and that's a mighty writer giving out praise. yessum. i could go on for hours but i won't. respect, the duke -- Tangents On-Line http://www.virtual-pc.com/tangent/ PO Box 102, Exeter, EX2 4YL, UK tangent@lineone.net ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . I've heard of heavy stereo, I liked their first 2 singles, the third wass shite, so I didn't buy the album, they got dropped by Creation. Oh yeh, and I met a girl on holiday last year who loved them, and I can't remember her name, which iss a shame coz she wass really nice. Colin On Sat, 7 Feb 1998, WesleySniper wrote:

Colin [stuff snipped]
Someone else who actually liked a Heavy Stereo song. My God, I didn't think there was *another*! Sleep Freak was a *great* single, with one of the most searing, downright LOUD guitar openings I've ever heard. A stomp along rock n roll classic which, sadly, hardly anyone bought. Mind, it was their biggest "hit" as it got to No.42. Smiler was the second single and was blinding, too. Sadly it all went bent awry with the album: a mess, and SF and Smiler were not on it either. And then Creation dropped them and that, I guess, was that. Oh, and if you hate Oasis you'll possibly hate Heavy Stereo even more. Sorry. Just out of interest, does *anyone* else who really likes B&S like Oasis. Oasis was the first band I really loved, not for the laddish shtick but because I thought they had the best tunes I'd ever heard and Live Forever sent a shiver down my spine that I didn't get again until I heard You Made Me Forget My Dreams, Put The Book Back On The Shelf, Photo Jenny, Fox in the Snow etc. etc. I mean, I know Oasis should be everything that a sterotypical B&S fan should hate but I don't care; I think I've been as hung up on what's "cool" and what's not for too long; probably a result of too much exposure to NME and MM. Just thought I'd get that off my chest, All the best, Jon -- World of Stuff... http://ds.dial.pipex.com/town/road/vp42/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Nice one la! Heavy Stereo are a wicked band. And you forgot the singles Chinese burn and Mouse in a Hole. Regarding the Oasis point, Again I am well into Oasis, and love everything they do, yet B & S do genuinely give off the same rush through me as oasis do. The attitudes are a complete contrast, and the lyrics are too in most cases... However Oasis have stood up to be counted for 90's, laughing in the face of computer programmed and pretty faced cheesy pop music and declaring war on those who half heartedly jump on the bandwagon ( blur, Hurricane #1, Embrace). B & S, on the other hand, fight their war in peace. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . This message was brought to you by the Sinister mailing list. . Could be worse. Scotland's official Euro'96 anthem was Rod bleedin' Stewart. Thank god for Primal Scream & Black Grape's alternative anthems.
Anyway - anyone heard of heavy stereo?
Not since they were dropped by Creation. I thought Sleep Freak was a wonderfully T-Rexish glam choon, but the rest of their stuff was, erm.. cack. Rod.
