The first gig took place a few mos. ago: a free | affair at the Camden Falcon. | Their debut gig was supposed to have been at the Phoenix festival, | but, as some already are aware, the festival was cancelled .... | well, some of you may remember that i had pretty harshly criticized the debut cinerama album, and was told to give them a chance at the concert. which i did. and they were better than i expected, but not much. my main complaint was that there were 6 of them on stage, and they sounded like 3. i don't think it was the fault of the sound guy, because i was standing right next to the sound booth and was hearing the mix the same way he was, and i would think that he would have fixed the problem if he could have. they were pleasant enough, but watching david's guitar playing, i noticed that most of the songs have the same chords in different orders, and really simple keyboard parts, so they all come off sounding pretty much the same. the best song was one of the last ones they did, when there was a pretty flute part. it's just that when you have 6 people on stage, the possibilities for song variation are pretty great, and they just didn't grasp that. i guess i am the last philly attendee to post his or her thoughts, and much of what i would have said has already been said. no one mentioned, though, the audience member who shouted "This is pish!" when chris made his announcement. who are you? come on, fess up. the post-show party went fairly well, but the atmosphere felt more funereal than festive. julie's retarded kitten is a neverending source of amusement. thanks for all that showed up and a special thanks to those who brought food. matthew, hoping that the philly show will be rescheduled. +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
