John Hughes = waste of celluloid aye, lad, i'd have to second you on that one--being probably the only person i know of under 30 who isn't familiar with those movies. admittedly i have seen ferris day off when i was a gell, but all the other ones i'm clueless about, and thankfully. Genevieve, do you ahve a tape of your Jellicle cats leotard dance? that sounds wellll surreal. wowee wow. who did the jellicle cats, was it TS Eliot, or that other guy?? sorry i forget things like that. I'll namble and pamble with isobel campbell, any old day. now we should find rhymes for ahh all the other members, like burdock (isn't that a weed of some sort) for Murdoch, and martin should be easy to rhyme. or course, in the action with STUDLY stevie jackson. I made a funny cartoon the other day with stuart in it. but it's a mystery. i'm not telling what it's about. NOW onto the subject of Donovan. mysteriously, i found a donovan 45 in this stack of old records i have from my grandparent's house a long time ago.....among the treasures being lovely things like the "Kac-Ties" the "Four Lads" mary hopkins, nancy sinatra, petula clark, and the 5th dimension, as well as some very nice rolling stones songs from when they were young and cheesy, and much better. but at any rate, the donovan single is "Aye my Love/Lalena". i was curious since i'd heard ppl say stuart sings like donovan. aye, my love, that he does. it's quite a comparison, except that stuart doesn't do that rather nasty vibrato thing at the end of each line that the D-meister does, which is a bit grating, but the songs are terrific. they have Strings, Flutey Mary-Jo solos (come and get it boys!) and wispy, wistful vocals like "La-di-da" and stuff about despair and loneliness and what not. actually "Lalena' is a pretty good couterpart to Mary JO, the theme is quite similar. "that's your lot in life, Lalena" (note: the n in lalena is pronounced as in spanish: enyay) i was extremely overjoyed. it made my day, which tells you how sad that particular day is. bxk--we always looking for some good cheese poetry. je suis fromage. AUUGHHHH why is cheese funny? for that matter, why are lesbians funny? and Nuns. nuns are funny. why?? Mommy--I wanna be a MTV VJ too. that would be a corker....me playing pjharveys' Mansize and Is It Wicked 24-7, and moping about trying to be all girly and loud in my camisole tops. a ctually it would be incredibly boring, wouldn't it. always at the mtv studios with idiots like carson daly, giving empty kudos to TLC and Collective Soul and uh 3rd Eye blind. i think i would get bored of it after a week, and just stay home to paint pictures or something. when would you have time to go horseback riding, or sit alone in solitude with Pussy Power? i knwo one thing, i'd play sleater-kinneys new video constantly. (in any case, kids in America, i've got my VJ picked out, can you guess who it is? i'm so wrong. is it wicked to idly glance at the tv screen on a BORING saturday afternoon????) i want my Fierce Tidals records!!! it will be so lovely. guess what, i have a set list. i did a performance last week. i felt so proud writing down my list to have before me, just like a famous rawk star like isobel, let's see should i do is it wicked right before kinky love? oh deary me. it was very much fun. i'm almost proud enough now to sing a song in public.
