Sinister: UofM journalism school
to comment on the article that Todd just posted from the University of Maryland, i should say that this is quite typical of what passes for "music journalism" in most school newspapers. i mean, its great that B&S get any type of mention whatsoever, and i should be grateful, but i just dont think that article shows a shred of imagination. spare me your "wuss factor" crap. lyrics even more ambiguous than morrissey's! wooo! i dont know when this article appeared in your newspaper, but i should mention that parts of it bear a striking resemblance to a review of the "lazy line painter jane" box set that appeared in the British music magazine Select recently. the bit about "beautiful" being perfectly titled, and a few other bits seem directly paraphrased from that review. plagiarism is always a pathetic sight, but again to be expected from these budding Spin writers who figure none of the heathens in their readership are cool enough to pick up Select. and of course, the bits that werent plagiarized showed "analysis" so lamely shallow that its simply not worth reading. "gimme wuss rock"? oy. ah. sorry to be so grouchy. -rye.
