Sinister: NME absolutely bloody spot-on shocker
*---* HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINISTER BABIES *---* I hope this doesn't spoil it for anyone but: NME gave 'The Boy with the Arab Strap' a totally justfied 8/10 under the banner 'Sebastian Coup' (nope me neither). Anyway, it's a big 3/4 page review so I won't type it out now but to summerise, John Mulvey says: 'Belle and Sebastian are a peculiar musical accident, a band who aspire to be underachieving cutie elitests, but who (sic) by virtue of their wise, uncommonly lovely music, find themselves the biggest 'unknown' band in Britain...there is a care and a craftsmanship at work...that leaves almost all their contemporaries for dead.' He then says lots of lovely things about all the tracks, and some bollocks about pearl jam and the levellers being similar in ethos, and ends by asking why Murdoch won't discuss...well, anything ever, and says that it's a bit cowardly to dis Aidan and then not discuss it. It's unarguably one of the best albums of 1998 apparently, which I'd second obviously. Incidently, there's one of those great collages to illustrate the article- with a naked Stuart I think, and Isobel sat on him. Not having seen the cover yet, I can't really comment. Ooh, Scotch Pie and chips....yummy Seb (Oh, I get it, Sebastian Coe= Sebastian Coup. That's truly shit IMHO) +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
