Sinister: rock biographies and an ugly footballer
Debbie wanted some recommendations of rock biogs. I particularly like the ones that contain exciting revelations of decadent rock-and-roll misbehaviour. Julian Cope's seminal memoir of the Liverpool post-punk scene "Head On" is particularly good for this. It's also a tremendous all-round page-turner that I simply couldn't put down. "Heroes And Villains" the true story of the Beach Boys is also a fascinatingly scurrilous and instructive tome, however I think it's out of print and I can't remember who wrote it. So that's, um, not much use. Peter Miller must have a heavily annotated copy. Perhaps he could lend it out. On a more academic level I really enjoyed "Across The Great Divide", Barney Hoskyns' book about The Band, but then I am a boring old bastard. Mark, Donnie Rovers' new signing is none other than Uncle Disgusting himself, Mr Neville Southall. Shaking the football world, indeed ! PS, to Oon: thanks v much for offering me info on Bangkok, but I didn't get the message until I returned, so I couldn't take you up on it.
