Sinister: The blueballs are still blue
Sinistees, Lately I can't stop listening to the first bit of "Nightswimming" by REM over and over again, mainly it's because there was a bit when he reckoned he deserved a quiet night when his voice breaks, and I like it when people sing and their voices break. There was piano too, and pianos are fun. So if you have any more recommendations of music where there is piano and voice breaking as someone sings, please let me know. Both criteria are very important. If it mentions nakkidness in the lyrics it's more the better, cos hehe naked people are funny. Did you know there was a TORNADO in London the other day, it's mental. It was at Kensal Rise, and I was lucky not to have been scooped up by the whirlwind, just think of the inevitable horrible headline: "KEN SHALL RISE", or whatever. I've been saving that as the title for my porn movie that I'm making and I don't want to see it wasted on an unfortunately incident with a tornado. Sooo, right, INTERNATIONAL SINISTER BOWLING DAY plans are well underway, with Robin Stout and I, and, um, special guests. Who else wants in? Or is the day going to just involve me shoving my balls down Robin's gutter? That'd make an ink polaroid and a half. I haven't been back to Rowans for ages. They've really done up Finsbury Park station, you know, they put a roof over the front of the station and driven out all the stanking gooners, unfortunately they've all migrated to Holloway Road instead, even nearer to my house, bastards. And of course the usual plea: If you were the REALLY CAMP GUY at Coachella who screamed passionately in 2002 or whenever while watching B+S, or maybe you know him, please get in touch. Hello! This Saturday we're having a "Pet Sounds" special at HDIF. I wanted to do something Christmassy, that didn't involve playing any Christmas songs. For a while, I toyed with doing something around the "Rushmore" soundtrack - either playing all of it, or some highlights - as it's such a wonderful film and an amazing soundtrack. But the more I looked into it, the more it became clear that the playing the whole soundtrack wouldn't be the best of ideas. "A Summer Song" by Chad And Jeremy is lovely, of course (and I'll definitely be playing it on the 16th), but eight or so minutes of "A Quick One While He's Away" by The Who? Not quite HDIF dancefloor material. Not quite Christmas either. But then I went to see Brian Wilson play "Pet Sounds" for the last time ever in the UK. And it was all just so perfect, and - in a strange way - all so Christmassy without mentioning Christmas once, that I knew this was the answer. Just play the songs in your head! The introduction to "Wouldn't It Be Nice"! The drifting beauty of "Let's Go Away For A While"! The heartstopping majesty of "God Only Knows"! Even though the gig was on 12th of November, it was just like Christmas. So, on Saturday the 16th of December, I'll be playing all of "Pet Sounds" at HDIF at the Phoenix. Not in order and not all at once, but, as with the "Boy With The Arab Strap" night we did a few months back, the songs will be dotted throughout the evening. I'll play "You Still Believe In Me" at 9.15 sharp, so if you want to hear the whole album, please make sure you get there early. The guest DJ is David Callahan of The Wolfhounds. David was a regular guest DJ in the very early days of HDIF, so it's a real pleasure to welcome him back. He's a superb DJ with a big collection of cool indiepop gems, so I'm looking forward to hearing what he's going to play. Hope to see you there! Ian x --------- How Does It Feel To Be Loved? Hello my lovelies Ken Chu said:

Yes! Come bowling with me! and Ken! Last time I went bowling was at Roy World Bowling a year ago and I got my fingers stuck in the ball. I need some more rubbish people to compete against so I don't look like such a loser. And you can say things like, "Cor, Robin, I haven't seen you for ages!", and I'll tell you funny stories and shower you with gifts and sing you songs and it'll be just like old times when we would jump aboard the Barnacle and sail forth for the seven seas and adventure! Everywhere I go I hear Family Tree by Belle & Sebastian. They play it on an advert for cat food, I swear; and there's a song by Euros Childs called Costa Rita, where the end of the song is almost exactly the same. It's not such a bad song, I remember when it came out and everyone made jokes about bottoms and squirrels and said oh, well, that Familie Tree is a well rub song, but I always thought it was pleasantly daft. Hmm, well, I shall write again soon. Hope you're having fun wrapping presents and all that. I'm off to listen to THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE 22 OF US, the perfect Christmas gift (http://twistedbydesign.co.uk/thistown/).
