Hello people, seasonal salutations and all, this message is really just to announce myself: I (re)joined the list today having tried it before and almost drowned under the sea of postings that were put on it. However I've dried meself off and I'm going to give it another go because I like Belle and Sebastian so much. It was love at first sight for me and If You're Feeling Sinister when I bought it around this time last year, and I suppose B&S have been my favourite band ever since. I don't like to admit to having very broad musical tastes in here in case it makes me sound like a diluted b&s fan- I've read a couple of mails on the list devoted to Sarah records, and while that stuff is nice (although- i'm going to say something controversial- not as nice as belle and sebastian) I like to listen to other stuff sometimes too. I'm also very fond of Nick Drake, Tindersticks, Joni Mitchell, Hendrix, Arab Strap, The Delgados, SFA... hang on a bit I don't want to bore everyone to death, I'll shut up because that could carry on for a while:) I'm 15, I live near Brighton, I'm in the fifth year, but I'm not going to start remembering about school in the middle of my holiday, and I feel at a terrible disadvantage because I can't get to any of B&S's gigs- unless they happen to be in Brighton:'( So perhaps I'll become the list's resident social reject because I won't be able to comment on the shows. However, I've been given many reports on their live performances by many people whose opinions I respect (and that includes you lot cos you like belle and sebastian) and the verdict seems to be unanimously 'a shambles'. B&S themselves admit it's a shambles. So perhaps I am better off staying at home and not venturing near a gig or a music paper (the NME seems to adore the music but hate the band), and instead nurture my rose tinted view of them whilst falling into a hypnotic trance caused by staring too long at my record player spinning round and round and round and round, watching all the little grooves swirling about:) Well this letter is now becoming reminiscent of one of those sleep inducing tapes for insomniacs so that's all for now. I'm off to do some exciting as yet unknown activity which will probably involve as little movement as possible because I'm preparing myself for tomorrow night. Perhaps I'll try meditation, or give myself up to the allure of Catcher in the Rye. Good old JD Salinger. May Currantbun Bonne Année - Feliz Año - Buon Anno - Happy New ear. Ear?
