Re: Sinister: NB&SC: Future Bible Hereos
he has another band, The 6ths, but I don't know it yet.
Ah The 6ths. Not really another band. More of a tribute to himself. Stephin wrote all the songs and then had his favorite indie rock vocalists come in and sing the words to his wonderful bubblegum electro pop ditties. Guests include Georgia Hubley (Yo La Tengo), Lou Barlow (Sebadoh, Folk Implosion, etc), Mac McCaughan (Superchunk, Portastatic), Mark Robinson (Air Miami, Unrest), Mary Timony (Helium), Barbara Manning (SF Seals), and too many others to list hear. This is my favorite Stephin Merritt project because the variety of vocalists is wonderful but the music keeps this album very cohesive and doesn't allow it to become a compilation or mix tape affair (I really hate that stuff). i'm no expert on all things steve but i do know that he had nothing to do with who sang the songs. he left that up to claudia. she picked them. the only part he took in the sixths thing was, of course, writing the songs, and since he doesn't like his own voice he wanted other people to sing them. and he also sent the singers back into the studio if they didn't sound "bored" enough. he had to do it with a couple of the people on that sixths record. he didn't want to sing them himself, but he did have an exact idea of how they should have been sung. and for whoever said "born on a train" is one of the best songs ever to grace this earth......you are a genius. and i've been making promises i know i'll never keep one of these days i'm gonna leave you in your sleep i'll have to go when the whistle blows the whistle blows my name maybe i was born on a train -brad ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
