Shawn the large Morrissey wrote: ""vocals by Monica Queen on Jane are INCREDIBLE! She reminds me of a young Dolly Parton or of Skeeter Davis. Has she done anything else? Solo or with B&S?"" Hi, all! LLPJ is the only B&S track to surface so far with Monica singing, she did go out on the B&S UK tour (well, 3 dates) last summer, to sing LLPJ, which was nice... Monica is the singer for a Scottish band called Thrum. I know they've had a mixed press on this list in the past, but in my opinion are/were one of the best bands around, her singing with a big guitar/bass/drums line-up in a crazyhorse style. Their first LP is called 'Rifferama', and came out 3 or so years ago on Fire. (The label, that is)( By law that joke has to be made whenever the label is mentioned). If you like her singing on LLPJ, then that LP is an essential buy. And it's easier to find than 'Tigermilk'. What really stands out is the strength of the songs. There were 3 or 4 singles as well. The second Thrum album 'Archangel' was recorded, then shelved by Fire when they thought it wouldn't sell enough. After being fucked about like this by the label, who after all had signed them in order to sell their records, the band were unable to get the rights to release the album themselves, so its never appeared. The band (I think) are still together in some form, does anyone know what they're doing now?? Or where I can get a tape of 'Archangel'?! Hope this sends any of you who've not heard Thrum out to your local indie shop to chase that LP!
