Sinister: Observations of the obvious kind
Its good to talk? ----------------- It seems a lot of what i read on the list is of total uninterest, with many personalised and 'informal' groups talking between themselves. I don't write much to the list because often you get what you want to here from a select few, even though you find yourself reading through pages of rubbish just for maybe a few sentences of sense. Remember this list is about BELLE + SEBASTIAN!!!! OK I'm maybe being a little bit harsh but quality before quantity surely. Things i've observed............ --------------------------------- 1. Many people on the list are : football fans part of a academic setup (email joy) 2. Many people want tigermilk - ok obvious, but isn't it only a matter of time before BOOTLEGS become available and the band start getting screwed. A re-release must be imminent? 3. Many people want to see B+S - ok obvious again, but i'm sure everyone connected with the list are waiting for info. about Manchester and are already forward planning. Out of interest why Manchester anyway? and why only two gigs? Ok i'm bored and i might be talking rubbish myself but i joined this list to talk about B+S. Finally i don't want to kiss ass but I'm grateful for the response i've had from previous emails. Call me ignorant but who are these people who respond? and what are there connection with the band? Anyway got to go, sorry to bore Feedback would be nice, good or bad In the immortal words of Roy Walker "Say what you see"( sorry non-Britain) Rich ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Lots of people use the list to relieve boredom, or whatever. I enjoy the off-topic stuff, it gives me a laugh most of the time. I've found lots of things on the list very useful, one way or another. I think it's a good thing that people don't mind a bit of rambling. Everyone knows where to draw the line, as far as I can see. The list is not just about Belle and Sebastian, it is also, by accident or design, about Belle and Sebastian fans (with computers) who I personally think are just as important as the band themselves. Sideline threads such as lemurs, stylophones, Arab Strap, etc., usually only last for a day or two before dying a natural and painless death. And as someone recently pointed out, Belle and Sebastian aren't exactly over-active at the moment. That's my opinion. I can see that some people might want the list to be purely B&S, but I don't think that's really possible. There just isn't enough to talk about, but I'll have a go: Bootlegs - a couple of months ago we were informed that Jeepster's crack team of lawyers are on the trail of some Italians for that very crime. Did anything come of it? 2 concerts - I think one or two of them have to get back to their studies at around about the same time as everyone else, so a three month tour is out of the question. This is pure speculation. It's good to have qualifications to fall back on, you ask your dad. Just out of curiosity - people at work: have you got permission to do this or are you being naughty? Back to work - churning out pages and pages of rubbish as it happens, Respectfully yours, Peter ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . and herein lies the eternal Pop dilemma: for what purposes do you use Pop? for what purpose do you use Belle & Sebastian? me, i'm a firm believer in the concept of Pop as personal life informant, reflector, enabler, distorter and lover. and probably a load of other things too. See i don't think belle & sebastian are about music. i don't understand music at all. in fact i might go so far as to say i hate music, and it's here where i doubtless fall foul of many people, including i don't doubt all those members of the band who just love the bloody stuff and who witter on about the music saying everything it needs to and then shutting up. actually i don't mind that so much, what i do mind is people who will only endlessly consume the facts of belle and sebastian, that are concerned with hearing only about product and what songs they played at such and such a show and what did stuart say between songs? all interesting stuff, perhaps (but only perhaps), but for me, what REALLY makes me smile and gush about the appeal of belle and sebastian is the way in which people are here openly displaying to us something of THEIR lives, of the ways in which this Pop has touched them, moved them, informed and deformed the ways in which their moments pass. long may you prosper. (although a few less posts about lemurs would be good... oh and who mentioned meerkats? the wolfhounds production team were called the meerkats, were they not? Tim?) love and slobbering kisses to anyone who deserves it. the duke -- Tangents On-Line http://www.virtual-pc.com/tangent/ Tangents On-Paper: PO Box 102, Exeter, EX2 4YL, UK tangent@mail.zynet.co.uk ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
