Sinister: Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy

Peter In my CD player: the theme music from Test Match Special on repeat. I bet none of you know who plays the piano and cowbells? Give up? Why, it's Isaac Hayes of course! Isn't that a remarkable thing? Hello! I am really glad after discovering one of our popes and leaders, the baronet of Hondarribia, (not promoted to Duke yet, is it all right with a 'baronetship'?)is 5 years and half older than me and he still has managed to stay radically sinister-wing and indoubtfully cool beyond 30. Jordi, the other regular listee living crossing the Pyrinees, is only 19, not to speak of someone who said yesterday she was going to turn 16 , finally...! Sniff. Anyway I am going to be tricky 'orange' rhymes with 'stripe' , and 'silver' with 'drag', no way to find anything with purple, but 'month' could be rhymed with 'Scottish'! .All that in Spanish, sure. Have B&S played some covers in their gigs or whenever apart from 'poupee de cire...' and' Reel around the Fountain' ? I got one vote, Stu, and you did not put me on the list! I won't talk you ever again and won't let you play with my Lego again! By the way, the Duke himself should abandon his silence and proclaim the heir to his crown. Nobody can claim the Dukeship by him/herself. Uh... Well I knew I had SOMETHING else to say that wasn't plugging something... Oh well, pardon the double-post, if you please... Aranzazu Sanz-Garcia wrote:

Indeed they have. Forgetting some of the titles, there was "Turn, Turn, Turn," not originally done by the Byrds, but I think that was the version they patterned their cover after. Then this past US tour they debuted an R.E.M. cover of some sort. Forget the title. At Manchester they did a cover of Orange Juice's "In a Nutshell," with Isobel on vox. Can't say it was an improvement on the song, from what I've heard, but then how could you? They also did some versions of the Velvets' "Mirror," which was originally sung by Nico, and then there were covers of the Left Banke (I'd still like to hear that one!) and Beck. I seem to recall another cover...but it's slipping my mind. I also heard they recorded a cover of a Felt song with an ink polaroid spoken word-ed overtop, instead of vocals. I don't think they've done that live, though. When are we going to hear Love & McCarthy covers? Perhaps they'll do a Love song (haha) when they play in LA on the west coast tour? Also, when will we hear a cover recorded & released? Oh, I suppose they're one of those bands that doesn't record covers (sigh). /"\_/"\_/"\ Mick McMick - bp224995@ohiou.edu - ICQ#5056758 \ / Sandcastle Records - (same e-mail for now) | | Sandcastle Homepage - | | http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Amphitheatre/4972/ | | "I am always wishing to make people | | in the world happy with my smiles." | | - Mr. Friendly +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net". Hello List, Well, I'm quite elated today, having gotten a rather good grade in a class I thought I would get quite a bad grade in. Well, maybe I thought I would get a mediocre grade, with the possibility of a bad one. Regardless, let's move on. PJMiller wrote:

I know how you feel. Since Duke defected to the Shalala flexilist I feel all at sea as well. Instead of enjoying his company and wisdom on equal terms, I am reduced to pressing my nose up against the window and reading the archives, an outcast from life's popfeast. You see, it's invitation only, and I didn't get one. It's all McMick McMick's fault. I want an invitation! Well, I think I should clarify some stuff. Yes, our list is invitation only, but the way you get an invitation is by writing to either myself or Pete Hahndorf and saying "Hey, can I please get an invitation and subscribe to your list?" and assuming you aren't a proverbial Ryan Stotz, we'll send you an invitation. Or should I say, Pete will, as I know nothing of listserv software, and at the moment, Pete hasn't had time to dummify it so that I can use it =P And all of you who don't feel like subscribing can see our archives at lists.twee.net. If you want to hear talk of the Wake, the Railway Children, the Jasmine Minks, How Many Beans Makes Five, the Siddleys, Another Sunny Day, Hopkirk & Lee, etc, please subscribe. Especially if you're of the female persuasion, our populace is too testosterone-heavy. There you will find the Duke, along with many Sinisterines of past and present. Incidentally, a lot of people in the past have asked me about the Sandcastle Records thing in my sig. Yes, I run a very small label. I've only got one release out so far. You'd think if people were curious about it, they'd go to the webpage listed in my sig, but no... Well if you're too lazy, there's an awfully good UK mailorder place on the web, www.pennyblackmusic.com, that has info on my comp in their front page this week. Said mailorder seems quite nice, carrying I believe everything B&S minus Tigermilk, and being a good source for a large number of Felt albums, as well as the new Field Mice retrospective (buy it!) and a number of other things. Drat, I hope this post isn't too commercial. I'll never ever plug my label again, promise =) Well, only two days until I find out if I made my first B&S conversion (from a mixtape made last year, no less) just 5 days until I get paid a visit by reigning US crush champion Magnetic Megan. How will I ever have time to post?
