To anybody interested: Arab Strap (previous support band for B&S) are playing live on the Mary Ann Hobbs show, on Radio 1 tonight.
I've heard about Arab Strap, but thought they were slightly more...um....drum 'n' bass -y than they obviously are. I'll certainly give it a listen - but what kind of band are they? And thanks and well done Paul for getting this new list set up. Have you heard the last weekend or whatever it was called? As I remember it was quite good on the radio, but I suppose it might get annoying after a while... it was a spoken word thing that was, as was widely remarked, a bit Trainspottingesque... I also remember reading a review of their album which said it was quite gloomy Scottish guitar music, not that that helps much. Go on someone, tell me I've made an embarassing mistake now and got the wrong band......... Hey, A Lad, re: the Verve and your eager promotion of them.Is it them that did that song with the fab strings? (da-da-daa, da-da-daa...) They play that at Poptastic quite a lot and I usually end up dancing to it, and I have a feeling someone told me it was the Verve...

'First Big Weekend' is a great record, and the LP is all great too. I have a review on my ezine if anyone really wants to know what i thought/think of it. The 'Clearing' 12" is great too, with the Belle connection and some cool beatz remixes on the flip. Musically it's quite slow guitar sound i guess... quite like Mogwai (with whom they made a single recently i think?), or if you want to go further afield, not unlike Tortoise or Slint. hope that helps someone. the duke Tangents On-Line http://www.virtual-pc.com/tangent/ Tangents On-Paper: PO Box 102, Exeter, EX2 4YL, UK tangent@mail.zynet.co.uk ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
