Sinister: acid house in d.c. and I ponder Morrissey
C'mon folks, we can't let the Bowlie bastards have all the fun. Acid House is showing as part of the DC film fest next Saturday (at 9 p.m.) and on Sunday (at 7:30 I think). Who's up? Which begs the question, what little marketing gnome thought to entice kids into movies first by releasing a great soundtrack? he/she oughta work for NASA or something. Speaking of movies, please don't see Never Been Kissed. If I didn't have winsome adolescent memories attached to Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful et al (say what you will but it twas my first exposure to 'alternative' culture, alternative being giant posters of General Public, of course), I'd probably have the same gag-heavy response as I did to NBK. On the other hand, it's good that "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" still survives as the anthem of crushing loneliness. You know, there is speculation that Homer was not actually a single man, but a composite of many oral poets who refined their craft over many generations. Ah yes, my children, perhaps our children will one day argue the same of Morrissey. Ok, off to watch Mystery Science Theatre 3000. Now that's cultural crit done right, and Joel made a cameo last week, too!! +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
