I do actually like autumn, when the leaves all go nice colours and then fall into soggy rotting heaps all over the pavement. When the sky goes all steely and clouds get torn into ribbons and the heavens open and you get soaked. When the- As I said, I do actually like autumn. For one thing, it's my birthday quite soon (also the anniversary of the Battle of Hastings). But anyone coming to the Oxford picnic tomorrow would be best advised to bring a brolly, as although the weather forecasts have been mildly optimistic, I trust those buggers as far as a can throw them. Which would probably be quite a way if one could throw something as inchoate as a television signal, but I'm a suspicious sort and therefore I will be stepping out with my clear plastic Sixties-style umbrella.
