Sinister: Top of the Pops and the last mention of Leicester's finest teddy boy combo.
I hope Belle and Sebastian do get the oppurtunity to grace the TOTP stage. I don't know what it's like now, so I don't know if they'd be an antidote to anything or not. Many years ago TOTP was sort of important, and even if it's shit now, I for one would jump at the chance of being on it, if only for the oppurtunity of telling my grandchildren about it. My Aunty Ann has been dining out for years on the fact that Ted "3,2,1" Rogers once asked her out. She turned him down. If anyonne wants to see how the mighty are fallen, check out the following link. Apparently 23 pages contain the word Showaddywaddy, and this little gem is one of them. Isn't that Isobel and Sarah sitting on the floor in the front row? And that looks suspiciously like Stuart Murdoch in a tangerine frightwig. http://www.chycor.co.uk/kiligarth-manor/page3.htm The other important reference point for seekers of Showaddywaddy-isms is the song "A Little Bit of Soap" by De La Soul, which (if I'm not embarrassingly mistaken) contains a sample of our new heroes just before the fade out. I wonder if their lawyers are as good as James Brown's. So that's why some of the messages come twice! I thought it was Bill Gates' fault. I'll try my best, but please bear in mind that I've only just learnt not to send all the messages to Paul instead of the list. Horrible fifties teddy boy pastiche group. Enormously popular when some of us were little. I can't remember how the subject came up, bbut it was me anyway. They're from near where I live. Of no interest whatsoever to your average Belle and Sebastian fan. I tried to look them up on the web, but there's not much to see. Yet.... I've heard a rumour that somebody IS going to start a mailing list, but only time will tell. In the meantime, it's probably best just to forget about it, otherwise we'll be upsetting somebody, as well as driving ourselves around the twist. I started it, sir, but if someone asks a question it's polite to answer, isn't it? So it wasn't the last mention after all. Well, this time it really is. I've just remembered I don't live there anymore. Some people have mentioned their fanzine interviews with B&S. Any chance of reading them? Bearing in mind that they don't stock it at the local newsagents. I'm sure something could be arranged. (Matt?) Just a thought.
