I know I speak with all the zeal of a recent convert, but there is no denying the power of these guys' music. Do any of you know what has become of Alex Chilton? The sleevenotes tell how Chris Bell died in a car crash but other than saying that Chilton was demoralised and out of music by the 80s nothing more was said.
Alex Chilton does gig occassionally nowadays, played about 8 months ago here, my mate went and apparently he kind of just played a load of jazz stuff and no Big Star stuff which pretty much pissed off everyone who went. Except Kevin the hipster.
I'd like to hear I am the Cosmos but if any of you have a copy it is probably so valuable that you wouldn't play it, let alone lend it out.
I don't think there's any great problems getting a hold of I am the Cosmos, I'm not too sure, maybe Mr.Mitchell, Mr Hopkins and Ms.Kerr can perhaps confirm a sighting of this when we were around the shops on Saturday... it rings a bell for me anyway. Except Kevin the hipster. I do believe Alex's main source of income is playing live. He does it a lot in the states. On rare occasions he'll do a "Hits from yesteryear" type thing and have a Box Tops tour. Back in '93 Big Star did a reunion with Jody on drums and the two main fellows from the Posies taking up the slack. They did 4 or 5 shows and were quite wonderful. Alex will do Big Star songs in his solo set, but his real passion seems to be '50's & "60's R&R. He'll do a lot of fun covers that are slightly obscure if the feeling stikes him.

I don't think there's any great problems getting a hold of I am the Cosmos, Ryco disc are still printing the CD in America. What is very rare and valuble is the original 7" of IATC. It's the only thing by Chris Bell ever released until the CD was issued.
