Sinister: joyful and triumphant
I'm getting in the Christmas mood, chickadees. It comes around early in olde Oxenforde, 'cause our term ends right at the beginning of December, and we have to get our tinsel and mince pie quotas in pretty sharpish. Am doing lots of rehearsals for concerts involving carols and stuff. Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols is totally fantastic, although scary. A load of girls singing in alarming harmonies accompanied by a harp. Mmmm. I was thinking about the minimum amount of information necessary for one to recognise another person. People I know very well I can tell by tiny details (such as the other day when I identified one of my housemates coming in by the way she cleared her throat) but larger clues are needed for mere acquaintances. Hmmm. Went to an alternative career day thing this morning, primarily to attend a panel discussion about journalism upon which Naomi Klein (wrote "No Logo", many thanks to Carsmile for lending it to me!) was sitting. She brought along her friend Thom Yorke. Most bizarre, sitting in the big posh Exam Schools where I have lectures listening to a cool lady and a pop star discuss the implications of corporate marketing strategy. Newsreader bloke Jon Snow was also there and quite interesting, although I've never met anyone with quite such a loud voice. Hah.
