Being a huge France Gall fan I too tried to translate her songs literally, 'cause I speak so little French. It helps to translate it and then see what the phrase could be in English...after all who eats apples of the earth? So really I think that "Poupee de cire poupee de son" means something like "Wax doll, talking doll" (or "doll of sound")...but I think it could also be a pun, as "son" can mean "his." This is, after all, Serge Gainsbourg we're talking about here, and he was no slouch with the clever puns. It's also a little amusing to write a song about a talking doll for a girl who was so obviously a manufactured pop singer. He really pulled a number on her with "Les Sucettes", too (smut content)...
