Sinister: denim, pastels, major labels
lawrence from denim sent me a copy of their "summer smash" single... not only did it not come out in the end but the other week Denim were dropped altogether by EMI... the same happened to Stephen Duffy and RCA this year... lawrence's letter mentions how he thinks the Belle and Sebastian/Jeepster way is the only way what with all this "radio playlist or death" madness that the majors are obsessed with. I can speak for painful experience myself of course. Suffice it to say that I'm a lot wiser now, and I refuse to fuck things up with my own new band, Fosca: it's a decent, passionate indie label for me or nothing. looking forward to seeing B&S on TOTP. They will do it, won't they? bought the new (excellent) pastels album. nice to see the illustrious list of additional musicians includes Dean Wareham, Norman and Gerry out of Teenage Fanclub, and a certain Isobel Campbell on cello... i once got stephen and aggi to autograph my copy of "The Bell Jar" at a pastels gig in bristol years ago... still got it. well i'm off to flirt with librarians. dickon x ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . ah, the apathy of the bourgeouisie indeed. Sylvia Plath. How quaint. I expect her to be name dropped in the next single naturally. Some line about forgetting to turn the oven off i expect. Boom boom. Hey, did i ever tell you about the time i went to try and find her house in Boston? Or how when i came back i went up to visit her grave on her birthday? it was very bleak, very misty, very cold. and it was yorkshire. i wrote a poem about it. i used to write poems about lots of things, but they got lost in a fit of rage, so thank your lucky stars you were all spared that. So then... been there, done that.
well i'm off to flirt with librarians.
but do they flirt back? the question is weighted heavily upon our pert and moisetened lips. Pray, kiss and tell. love you all. the duke of harringay PS: Richard Edwards indeed. -- Tangents On-Line http://www.virtual-pc.com/tangent/ Tangents On-Paper: PO Box 102, Exeter, EX2 4YL, UK tangent@mail.zynet.co.uk ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Duke!!! Control yourself dearie!!! There ARE separate lists for that type of thing y'know... :) (um, not that I'd know, obviously.) And if they DO flirt back then I'm bloody well moving to London cos Didsbury Library's are all old women and they're too boring even to make predictable hair jokes at me like other adults I tangle with... sigh... and I havent even got anyone to go to the library WITH... and they never have any decent books :( Sorry...bad life month... get me away from here I'm dying.
