Sinister: she's a map without a compass
i just realized the URL in my signature was wrong. that's really wierd. anyway, sorry christa and anyone else who tried to go BUXOM.............. the actual URL it seems is http://members.tripod.com/rebelstrange/buxoms.html the little "L" made all the difference. i dont' really understand it, but oh well. CHASING AMY: i wrote a poem about this movie. i've never actually seen it, but it has traumatized me in ways mere mortals cannot possibly understand. Let's say this, the stuff in the movie could concevably happen to someone somewher ein the world. But the very fact of its existence--and then, its being embraced as some sort of cultural phenomenon--purports to make a sweeping statement of it. Not to mention that it's a movie seen as dealing with "lesbians" that is actually written by a heterosexual male, which says more about said male than anything else. so i have problems with that movie, not so much the movie than with the fact that people seem to watch the movie expecting to be educated about something. When i workshopped my chasing amy poem in class, one girl wrote a comment on my paper saying that she had just watched the film, and "learned a lot about lesbianism". NOT!!! it's a movie about a narcissistic guy and his slutty girl troubles. GROW UP_!!!! okay anyway i got that out of my system. Andrea Dworkin rocks my ass, LJ and please don't write me telling me that andrea dworkin is a psycho, as sheela nagig would say, "HEARD IT BEFORE!!" http://members.tripod.com/rebelstrange http://members.tripod.com/rebelstrange/buxoms.html "Post-feminist MY ASS!!!" Hello peebles, Not wanting to turn this into a film mailing list (that seems to be happening anyway) just thought id start with a few comments about Chasing Amy and its merits/faults. Point one: never trust anyone who says 'i havent seen this film but.....' and then has an opinion on it. Not the best basis for a critique. Secondly the film is autobiographical (the writer/director used to go out with the female star) so to say they have no idea about it seems harsh. Also, the film really has fuck-all to do with lesbianism, just happens to have one in it (well more bisexual but still). Anyway, onto something more on-topic. The Blair Witch Project.....not really. Seriously, someone mentioned wichita lineman. I love that song. And it was horrifically butchered on songwriters circle by both jimmy webb and the other chappie. Cant beat glen campbell's version. Isobels long lost country uncle? quick advert: go to www,imagineradio.com, its a great site that ive been raving to everyone i know about it (and hes getting fed up). You can make your own radio station and its got loads of cool bands. If your there check out the Bellendsebastian station in the soho scene, er, daddio. can anyone recommend a good tindersticks album to start with? (dont say all of them, ive heard thwyre great) Bis's new song is really good, how did that happen? It hasnt got any screeching in it at all!! And its got proper singing and everything. Slinkier than isaac hayes playing with a slinky. NME gave puff daddys new single single of the week. Dont believe them, its poo on toast, a note for note copy of the original (theres a surprise coming from him) that manages to lose any of the good stuff from the original. But then it is the NME. They know nowt about nowt. This message will self destruct in five seconds (or when you delete it) Bye Rich +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister@majordomo.net". Hey kids, Lots and lots of film posts. I never see films! Will someone invite me to go and see a film please so I can be Cool? Are films the new rock'n'roll? I supose some people are more influenced from films than music....I wonder what thats like. I supose it's like being in Primal Scream. Drug Addled so Kowalski actually makes sense? Heh. Thinking about it, I think one of the last films I watched was a Russ Meyer film. About bonking and stuff. Yeah..I got home not as drunk as I should've been, so I opened a bottle of red wine with a lot of difficulty, made some garlic bread and then was corrupted for flurpin' life. I was going to buy a Russ Meyer film soundtrack whilst I was in London Towne. But I didn't. I bought Os Mutantes instead and they're great. LJM:
i wrote a poem about this movie.
I once wrote a poem about a movie too. Ahem. <bongo roll> <jazz bass arsing about> ODE TO CASPER. Casper, The Friendliest Ghost, The friendliest ghost you ever did see He flies around a haunted house In search of those who need a pee He points them in the direction of the convieneces with always a happy wave! And then he laughs and laughs and laughs And goes off to the ghosty rave. <drink your black sludgy expresso/weak lemon drink now, there will be NO TIME LATER!!!> One day along came a little lady called Christina Ricci He ended up snogging her, and thought, WAHEY! Cos finally he got a bit of nookey. I can't remember the ending but I bet it was good. Then LJM added:
i've never actually seen it,
Um, I've never seen Casper the Friendly Ghost either. Or Heavenly Creatures. Even though I bloody star in it. That Lysergic Acid stuff that the "Director" gave me that one time must have been a bit more potent than the usual stuff. Sigh. I've not even been to see Star Wars and I probably won't end up seeing it either - well until it comes on TV next Christmas Holidays. Tim - did the Clientele end up sounding like Jeff Buckley then? Or am I getting them mixed up with some completely different band, like I usually do, which could be quite embarassing to me at a later date? I'm sure I've heard a record and its been all....delicate. LJM AGAIN wrote this response to Tag:
Just because someone is a self-described feminist or a lesbian, does not mean they hate men.
I think Tag just wanted to know what DYKE SKEELZ are? You've hammered it home that you don't hate men just assholes and that women float your boat. I'm assuming SKEELZ is "skills".... or do you mean dyke SKEEZ? As in "skis"? Thinking of which, thats quite a good idea really isn't it? Skis for Dykes! Yeah! You may laugh now, but when I expand into Ice Skates for Drag Queens and conquer the entire GAY WINTER SPORTS MARKET AND BE DEAD RICH then I will be the one who is laughing. Ha! Ha! I bet people laughed at Richard Branson when he started out... oh I forget, they still do. The difference is that he owns his own island where he can go and not hear the derising laughter. Stoopid man. Who runs trains with no air conditioning. Thats it. called Christina Ricci
I decided yesterday to start stalking miss Ricci, coz I am the sort of sick depraved person who sits through a film such as, for example, the addams family values, all the time thinking of how fantastic wednesday's boobs have become. This is not natural, neither is stalking, but if I devote my whole life to it, I will be away from normal society and therefore not capable of doing anything that it considers to be wrong. I also bought some very dissapointing cheese today, which was orange , I don't normally buy orange cheese, but it was cheaper than yellow cheese, and I needed the money to buy cigarettes and an axe. colin. +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
