Sinister: chat moans - i'm sorry but....poo.
belle and sebastian. the chat, what a fucking disqappointment. i'm sorry, and i have no ideas as to rorganisational changes or anything, but i think the IRC format just doesn't work. Nothing to do with Honey/David/katrina, it was mostly the attitudes of the band, and towards *ceratin* fans. Stuart fucking David was being an arsehole for most of the time - sorry, but this would be MY personal opinion of having a little RESPECT for the fans????? then again, *some* fans actually thought something good might happen. *Some* other fans seemed more arsed about wanking. FUCKING GROW UP. The few times the band answered a question, whoever asked it seemed to lost their voice in #jeepster and bythe time could type followup in #sinister - the plot had been lost again. Then again i supose its good as i lost my voice else i would have started having a right go at Stuart David. If we want any decent answers, i just don't think IRC is the way we're going to get them. one simple reason is that it would simply take too long to type. I mean, I supose it was better than nothng....but.... And the time was awkward, 2pm.....afternoon for the meeja i can understand, but were there actually any REAL meeja people there? i skived out of media studies to try and get this for the student mag affair, and i am going to get SO bollocked, so I am going to make up a B&S interview, 'cos quite frankly, I can't print this, which was what was mosty said: StuartD : carbon StuartD : caesuim StuartD : I'm bored, can i go and eat some chips now? confu`sion (zhon) *n* a mental state characterised by disorientation regarding time, place or person, causing bewilderment, perplexity, lack of orderly thought, and inability to choose or act decisively. Oops - sorry. All I can say is it was a horror to balance between long delays as the band didn't seem to want to answer some questions and just stayed silent instead of declining (a decent response to some of the questions, not I thought to others), and a deluge of questions and follow-ups all on top of each other which confused the participants as they're new to this. It was very hard making sure everyone had a decent say, but at the same time that everyone who wanted had a go. Sorry if anyone felt shut out, it wasn't intentional. I also spilt crisps all over the floor.

Maybe you're right. The band were very new to the format and I tried to encourage some contact on IRC before but I only ever saw Stuart and Stuart online. I think this was a lot of the problem. What are "decent answers" though and will you get them in any format - it's sometimes a feature of people, not things. Some will say the whole thing was too formal, some not formal enough. The free-for-all in the middle had the band screaming for the room to be closed again, but at the end with Sarah it was fine. Maybe they'll come off and on IRC now they've tried it, in which case fine as long as no-one treats them as anything more than another person in the room. Remember the list and the IRC room are for YOU.

It's not obvious but I doubt it - maybe Katrina knows. But the timeslot was also for the *band* who said they couldn't get into the office later on. They were washing their hair. Honey xxx P.S. Quick thankyou to all the ops though and david and katrina who were stars. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . fair point, but at most points i had between 8 and 12 questions queued for paul to try and organise. we did desperatly want to give more people time, but then we also wanted very much for everyone to ask a question if they wanted. we largely managed to make sure that nearly everyone got to as ktheir question, we had no luck though of guaranteeing that they would be answered.

another fair point, but to assist you all in some way i've also put a version of the log on the web. the version i've done is marked up, it shows in bold all questions, answers and relevant text. meaning that you can get the gems of information without having to read all the dross (which there was a lot of). i know it wasn't the worlds best chat, but reading through the log there are answers to a lot of things we did want them to answer. they said tigermilk will be re-released, told us about a tour, and let us know how they write songs. so the question is, not what they put into it (although it could be asked of stuart david), but what the hell did you expect to get out of it? perception is very much the key to viewing the log, not all of it was written in disposable trashy language, some is very much highly quotable and in context. if you want to view the marked-up version of the log then the page is on my site (link below) or you can go direct to: http://www.totalweb.co.uk/bluesoda/log120398.htm thanks david kitchen sarah did also say that she couldn't turn the chat into an interview, this could be true, but i think that the several paid writers and reviewers on this list would agree that it could very easily be turned into a critical and informative article of an IRC chat, with the bonus of having all the content belle and sebastian orientated. too hard? or would you just like to pretend they did an interview anyway and do as you said and put the words you wanted to hear into their mouths? - feel free to reply directly to me. -- ******************************************************************** Belle and Sebastian Fan Club merchandise, mail-outs, chat, lyrics, poetry, fiction http://www.totalweb.co.uk/bluesoda/ mailto:bluesoda@totalweb.co.uk ******************************************************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . i don't really know .. i know that we had advertising on nme.com and select on-line, so maybe a couple of journos came from there? i promise that if i get any comments or "articles" from the press sompany, that i'll post them to the list. i know the time wasn't the most ideal, but hey, the band turned up and they answered most of the questions ... i echo david's sentiment of "what did you expect to get out of it?" ... We've all learnt from experience and if we do another chat, i know that things will be slightly more organised and people (the fans and the band) will know how to behave as they will know what is expected of them.
P.S. Quick thankyou to all the ops though and david and katrina who were stars.
Well, i think the biggest thank you must go the Paul for being the biggest star and pretty much organising the whole thing. We love you Honey, we do!
