Sinister: I'll show you claws
because it's a feeble way in which to claw out some desperate scintilla of individuality in this zombifying mass-culture world. or maybe not.
That's pretty funny considering that pretty much all of you listed the exact same bands. I swear, if anyone pulls that stunt again (i.e. asking questions that you know that every single dork on the list will answer, the same way- yourstruly as well in case you were wondering) I'll hook my car battery up to my computer and electrocute them. I had to unsubscribe.... it was that bad.... go to digest. I couldn't take it. I mean, I really hate deleting everyone's messages en masse but I couldn't take another waiting three minutes just to see "oh, Smiths... Pulp..... Radiohead.... Jesus and Mary Chain..... Elliott Smith...." (oh! and no black people, ha ha, except for the alphabetizing trainspotter I saw toss in Albert Ayler, as if) I mean, really. The best instore music experience was once when Tower was pushing the Spiritualized album and left this disastrous 10-minute fuzz-storm playing, it was funny just to see people's heads turn up to the speakers like those flowers caught in stop-action on nature shows. Going into class every day of third grade made me sigh.... I just sat in the back of the class and copied maps out of atlases all day. By the way, that was a bitchslapworthy question too but since it demands a modicum of creativity to answer (i.e. who the fuck remembers what made them sigh back then? Cry, maybe, but sigh? I think really young people only sigh when they're bored, and I think, really, that Belle and Sebastian would make a young boy sigh). Without misgiving, I paid upwards of fifty bucks to see Isaac Hayes play in Israel... I guess it was worth it as my brother and I were televised, live, running down to the front and dancing when "shaft" was played. Everyone else there was an uptight Israeli rock star or my uncle. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net". i said that non-funny thing, so i get to reply. _i_ listed different bands from most people's which proves either that i march to the beat of a different bongo or am just stupider than all the smiths fans out there. actually, marginalized as i am, morrissey's lyrics don't really speak to me. egocentric and whiny, with a few witty phrases here and there, as far as i can tell - though i can see how he speaks for a legion of angst-ridden introspectives. no offense meant. i have two smiths albums so back off. the lack of black folks on the music list is startling; good point. can't say i care for the music most american blacks are making today. but fats waller and louis armstrong and their ilk - and the unique jimi hendrix - were geniuses. 99.9% of rap, however, bugs the hell out of me. i bet most b/s fans feel the same way, our favorite band being sprightly and twee and soft-spoken. perhaps i'm just too old and crotchety. humbug. I think you've hit the nail on the head, just about. There just aren't many people in bands from the UK who are of African descent. At least not in all the ones I happen to like. And seeing as how a majority of the bands I like are from the UK... well there you have it. I think that would explain it for a number of people, at least. It's also funny how no one ever mentions any other ethnic groups when they say that there's a lack of non-caucasians in people's fave lists.

Hm...well no, I'd have to say that I like quite a lot of rap, just nothing that has come out in the past few years, whereas I think 99.9% of Jimi Hendrix' songs...oh hell, 100%, bug the hell out of me. You could also easily say the say the same thing about that, seeing as how soloing for an entire song isn't exactly twee either. People who like B&S seem to actually like a rather wide variety of bands, judging from the people I've talked to. It's just some odd reason that the people who responded to the band lists thing liked, for the most part, a lot of the same bands. And while we're on the subject, I noted that there was no bossanova on anyone's lists. How can it be so! I have an LP sent to me by a lovely Brazilian in which Joao Gilberto and some other Brazillians play some nice songs, and the guitar parts in "Ease Your Feet into the Sea" remind me of the entire LP. Of course, I highly doubt that B&S got a Brazillian LP and ripped off some things from it. Those who receive my tape tree tape should find on it a song from that LP, as well as other bossanova hits, as well as your everyday anorak-wearing bands. And no, Brad, no Smiths ;) /"\_/"\_/"\ Mick McMick - bp224995@oak.cats.ohiou.edu - ICQ#5056758 \ / Sandcastle Records - (same e-mail for now) | | Sandcastle Homepage - | | http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Amphitheatre/4972/ | | "Everyone has their own cup of tea. | | Some just happen to like a lot of sugar in it!" | | - Me! +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
