Sinister: B&S: the Bathers connection
A while ago someone asked about The Bathers who played with B&S at Kelvingrove Park. They are worth checking out although they're not really like B&S at all. They've also been around a lot longer. Their best album is called "Sweet Deceit" which is, without hyperbole, a masterpiece. Chris Thomson, the lead singer, started out some time ago in a band called Friends Again who I think were on the renowned Postcard label (circa 1982??). The Bathers had a brief incarnation as Bloomsday (James Joyce connection) and got into the fringes of the charts with "Strange Honey". They're one of those bands who always almost get famous and they've played a series of legendary gigs mainly in Glasgow and Edinburgh. They recorded some songs with Liz Frazer of the Cocteau Twins - the best of which was "Angel on Ruskin" IMO. She also appeared with them at one gig in Glasgow. If you buy "Sunpowder" you can hear it. Apparently they were pretty good at Kelvingrove but their live performances can be patchy - shades of Pink Floyd at Cottiers last year!
