What an obnoxious indie-snob thing to say. Yes, his intro was cheesy, but I could go the rest of my life without hearing someone preface a statement with "If ___ were a true fan"...who are you to decide what constitutes a true fan? MPRVixen@aol.com wrote:

Hear, hear, Tanya!... And to the perpetrator(s) of the original comment in general: The very juxtaposition of the words 'true/real/proper/original/etc.' and 'fan' gets lots of peoples' backs up you know, and not out of paranoia that you mean us, either. People love music in different ways- it all depends on their own persona and style. Or are all B&S fans supposed to be the same?! (I speak as one who once went to a My Life Story gig as a goth just *because* everyone else always wears feathers and tiaras...and might I add the band thought I looked good...up the individualists.) If I were in a band (one that were actually going somewhere, that is), I would be glad of ANY fans! Surely you'd have been more upset if he slagged them off. Oh, and incidentally *hauls out well-thumbed Chamber's 20th Century Dictionary* a fan is: "a fanatic; now (from US use) a devotee or enthusiastic follower of some sport or hobby, or public favourite." Hands up anyone who could point out an 'unreal' fan then?! Love Kate xxx ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Can somebody tell me when the "True Fan Committee" meets next, I was thinking maybe I would apply...
you're all going to be feeling mighty pissed when B&S make the 'real' charts and they run pictures and gossip in the teen mags and 15 year old girlies and boys start wearing B&S badges (hey! the kids in my art class want the badges because they look cool and brown is the 'in' colour this season!) and shirts. Of course we'll all be mooching around saying how they aren't as good as they used to be (even/especially if/when they are miles better), we'll be wearing our copies of Tigermilk on our sleeves (or making up stories about how your copy got nicked at at a party once, which explains the gap in your collection) and trying to convince everyone that, no, really, that dodgy band from Durham that were inspired by and who just sound a bit like B&S are actually BETTER. No shit. Looking forward to that day immensely so i can laugh at myself. the duke ps: does anyone think that it's the Stray Cats when the new green day record starts? only saying this because i'm forced to listen to the evening session show this week... yikes. -- Tangents On-Line http://www.virtual-pc.com/tangent/ Tangents On-Paper: PO Box 102, Exeter, EX2 4YL, UK tangent@mail.zynet.co.uk ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . I was sitting near Chris--did anyone else notice him turning away and cracking up during the host's intro?! --emily ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
