Various people at various times have mentioned Century of Fakers being a rehash of Century of Elvis (fair enough, one of these was Nick Hornby, and what would he know!!!), and I don't want to sound like a trainspotter, but ... ... has anyone else noticed that if you listen VERY VERY carefully to Elvis, you can hear the words to Fakers being sung after the intro and before the spoken word bit begins - as if the mics on the instruments are picking up some of the vocals, despite the fact that they've been dubbed out -- if you see what I mean. Is that conclusive evidence that Elvis is a rehash of Fakers, and not the other way round? Also, why would Century of Elvis be called Century of Elvis if not for the fact that is is a different version of Century of Fakers. Now, going off-topic (BURN ME!! HANG ME!! STONE ME!!) - Galaxie 500's On Fire has other lyrical gems, as well as the one about "shoes talking to me" - but I can't remember any at the moment - will listen to it later and report back .... Re: the heated debate about sarah records earlier on, why doesn't someone set up a mailing list specifically for this (er, don't look at me, I've just about worked out how to send e-mail) and what's with Shinkansen - the only thing I've seen on the label is the marvellous Trembling Blue Stars LP - anyone know? - mind you, half of you lot probably work for them/have slept with them/ had a punch-up with them on a barge in Bristol ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Well on the Tweenet web pages as well as lots of Belle & Sebastian stuff there's plenty on Sarah/Shinkansen, along with details of certain list members shady pasts as fanzine writers/record label failures :o) Join their mailing list, they'd love a good sarah debate on there. Someplace this week I saw a mention for the Trembling Blue Stars album with the tag line that if that special person in your life has got "If You're Feeling Sinister" buy them the Trembling Blue Stars album for xmas. Not sure about that advice myself East River Pipe being much better. Maybe we could launch the perfect album for xmas present thread now? Or judging by the last week perfect small rat like animal for xmas? :o) Actually buy people gift vouchers for xmas as they're the gift that keeps on giving apparently? There was a new Trembling Blue Stars single last week but ignore that buy the Arab Strap remix of David Holmes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . I reckon it's normally best to buy people compilations for xmas. If the person really likes a band, they'll already own their albums; if they're not sure, or have never heard of the band in question, you can buy them a greatest hits album, because that way they'll get to get a good idea of what the band are really like, and are free to investigate further if they want to. Maybe Sparks / Nick Drake / Housemartins?

Ah, gift vouchers are so good, they allow you to buy anything in that shop. So much more convenient than giving people those old fashioned banknotes, which can only be used in, like, every shop in the country... Stuart G P.S. The best proof i reckon, would be that the song structure of CofF fits far better than CofE. The bits with harmonies sound as if the song had originally been written as CofF. But, i can't be sure because some so-called friend of mine has run off back to University with my CD's of IYFS, DonW & LLPJ. Take Care, Love & Rage, Nick.
