Sinister: TIGERMILK REGISTER - John Peel's copy
Magnificent munificent magister of modern music JOHN PEEL, was, in his twentyninth year of sterling service at BBC Radio 1, a recipient of an original Tigermilk plate. Presumably the band mailed it to him (Katrina will know). And then fellow Radio1 DJ Mark Radcliffe charmed the LP away from him, and carried it off to Manchester. When Peel compiled the annual Festive Fifty (a compilation of the fifty most popular tracks of the year in the opinion of 'Peel Show' listeners) in December 1996, the Tigermilk track 'The State I am In' was good for number 28. In order to play the track for the benefit of inveterate Festive Fifty tapers like me, he had to have Radcliffe's people supply a DAT of the song. And he stomped all over its gentle intro with an horrendous jingle. Manual mishaps are a mark of the man. God bless -Rod, 'older than he looks, alright' reads Beckett, S.: 'Mercier et Camier' ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
