i haven't managed to persuade myself to buy it, much as i'd like to, on the grounds that bands / individuals rarely if ever recover from releasing crap albums, even if they'd been superb before (thus new adventures in hi-fi being ok, but nowhere near up to previous standard, after the monstrosity that was monster).

Well, I never managed to get it anyway, cause it doesn't appear to be out yet, or perhaps Virgin just don't have it, having said that, an American on the list mailed me this morning to say it was really good and he'd got it, perhaps released earlier there. I will still buy it, but for the moment I think I'll get a hold of "The best Disco album in the world ever" which looks great, on the telly.
