A Friend in Canada just sent me this, thought it might be of (some) interest...
From Alternative Press:
When Scottish folk-pop sensation Belle And Sebastian made its maiden voyage to our shores last month for CMJ in New York, the group requested that its performance take place in a 150-year-old cathedral. Church services at the cathedral are still presumably free, but rumor has it that use of God's quarters for that September evening of mellow melodies enhanced by fellow Scots the Pastels cost the band $10,000. Though the band no longer has a record label (since the decline of The Enclave), sources say Belle And Sebastian are hoping to line up cathedrals for a tour of the U.S., when and if that ever happens. It seems likely that Matador is going to pick them up, but whether or not the New York-based label helps put the band up in cathedrals remains to be seen. =========================================================== Seems like they must be making quite a bit if they can really afford $10,000 for a concert !! How many poeple claim to have Tigermilk so far then ? It seems it's beyond 1000 by now. Ben. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . OK - for anyone interested we have now accounted for 9% of all copies of Tigermilk... I have a list of 43 "definites" and 48 "probables" (i.e. the 45 that went to journos and radio stations, some individually confirmed, plus and handful of others - ones that we don't know for sure haven't been passed on). I'll put the list on the WWW pages later today or tomorrow, but if you know more tell me - I'm dying to break the 10% barrier. There will also be a crack team of burglars coming round to all your houses tonight to ensure I get a copy from somewhere. I was very pleased to read in Ink Movies today that Stuart M is thinking of giving it all up, moving to New York and studying astronomy at a University. Stuart - if you're listening - I did all that at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh: it was fun, but I'd still rather write songs for a living. can account for astronomy being fun, I'm a second year astrophysicist and have decided, after a minor internal conflict, that it was the best thing I did, rather than do maths like my parents tried to force me. As long as you can put up with idiotic people calling you nerd or space cadet, they always eat their words in the end anyway. love and hugs, Laura :) xxx On Wed, 5 Nov 1997, Paul Mitchell wrote:

I would like to say too though, if I was any good at writing music, etc. I wouldn't be sitting here trying to figure out my physics assignment love and hugs, Laura :) xxx On Wed, 5 Nov 1997, Paul Mitchell wrote:
