I have an essay to write and have been up all night trying to finish it, and when taking a wee break, I decided to stick the words "belle and sebastian" into Altavista, then tried again with "stuart murdoch". Came up with a couple of nice things, so if you want to be similarly entertained, point your mouse this-a-way, to save you all traipsing through all the nonsense like CVs from Australian photographic students. http://website.lineone.net/~sroylewis/index.html This is the coolest, it has clips and theme tunes for kids shows, including Belle and Sebastian :) http://incolor.inetnebr.com/morehead/album_reviews/belle_and_sebastian/if_yo... This one refers to the lyrical insight that has recently been discussed here at some length (mostly by me), even though the author does confuse Stuarts David and Murdoch. Quite a good read, I think. Maybe the person who wrote this is actually on Sinister? http://www.magnetmagazine.com/photos/phbelle.html A very lovely photo of Struan. http://www.geocities.com/~jnovotny/concerts/bellelive2.html Describes them as a "low-quality Sonic Youth". www.irish-times.com/irish-times/paper/1999/0219/fea3.html Claims that Belle and Sebastian the TV show doesn't exist. Don't appear to have heard of Mick Cooke (this was an article penned after the Brits). Bizarrely suggests that Brian Molko should start listening to the Go-Betweens to become more like B&S. All very odd, this one. One for Mark, our resident Wimbledon fan. Why have you never told us that Struan is actually the goalkeeping coach for the Wombles? See http://www.netti.fi/~wombles/dons.htm for proof. Nice to know that Scotland keeper Neil Sullivan is being coached by such a fine footballing superstar :) http://www.desert.net/ww/11-23-98/nash_music-records2.html This is a cracker. Struan sings like he's chopping onions, and Dirty Dream#2 sounds like "Motown reinvented by a depressed Lulu" apparently. I was also intrigued to find out that Mick Cooke is the manager of the Eire Ladies under-16 football team, whilst also forming the Hastings sub-aqua club (was that the reason for the location of Bowlie? So he could go and check up on his proteges just down the road?). Richard Colburn is a state senator in Maryland, Chris Geddes is a big cheese in Canadian volleyball circles, Sarah Martin runs a stud farm in Co Meath, Stuart David has written a book called "How to become a professional calligrapher (a pentalic book)" and Isobel Campbell is the chairperson of the South Harris agricultural association, organising fine sheep-shearing competitions by all accounts (well according to the Stornoway Gazette) But most revealing is the admission by one Geraldine Halliwell that the things she likes most in the world are Abba, Elvis and Stevie Jackson... http://degrees.simplenet.com/spice100/geri.html if you don't believe me. The web is a wonderful way of making sure you don't do any work :) Sorry for not having anything interesting of my own to say, Ailsa xx +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the reborn Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
