Hi everyone! I had the most beautiful new years. I thought it would be one of the most boring and uneventful days... I was going to sit at home and read a book and be tired, because I'm always tired.... I was blue for the days before, because i thought i'd be stuck alone. I kept thinking, however, that the day hasn't arrived, and maybe something wonderful would happen. I ended up watching the unveiling of one of the most elaborately designed clocks in the world strike 2000.... The clock is a mechanical, binary computer designed to run for 10,000 years. the difference between time according to the planets, and absolute time had been adjusted for. leap years have been taken into the picture... after 10,000 years, it stops, and someone has to "wind" it up again. It's meant to foster the idea of human longevity, and the responsibility that goes with it, to break through our mental barrier of merely one millenium being beyond our human understanding. It looks straight out of 2001, mysterious, beautiful, ordered. It rings once a century, and chimes at every millenium. This year it chimed twice. How many people would ever see such a clock ring in a millenium. That clock was just a prototype. the finished product will be set in the desert. and a duplicate will be sent to the british museum of natural science. such a beautiful thing. science and pure ideals, rolled into one structure, looking at me with the abstract beauty of a math equation. and all shiny too.
