Oh Jong just NO NO NO! The 80's had some MARVELLOUS music!!! I mean take the Lexicon of Love by ABC, it is sheer classic POP with some of the greatest lyrics and best thing written on an album sleeve ever : "a-z affectionately, 1-10 alphabetically, from here to eternity without inbetweens, still looking for a custom fit in an off the rack world? sales talk from sales assistants when all I want to do is lower your resistance. No rythm in cymbals no tempo in drums. Love's on arival she comes when she comes. Right on the target but wide of the LEXICON OF LOVE" Yes!! Tis fucking great. Get it, 50p from a charity shop or market stall NEAR YOU! Along with Parallel Lines by Blondie and the first Farm album which are ALWAYS THERE. And there are people far more qualified than me to talk about McCarthy and Felt and the Go-Betweens (who have already been siezed on) and lots of Popsters inbetween..... I'M GOING NOW BYE!!!!!! you could agree with the sentiments of the Bis song and say, as indeed i have already, that the 80s sucked if you weren't a kid, or at least pretended to be one. my friend daniel alse said that an 80s without Creation records would have been an 80s infinitely worse than they were. Of course Creation ballsed up, but the Go-Betweens didn't and nor did McCarthy or Felt. We know at least two of those groups are important to the B&S story in some way or other.... Did anyone see Rob Young's article about felt in The Wire this month? I haven't seen it myself but am irked that he's done that now with the prospect of my chunker Felt chapter coming up in October. Grrr. Has anyone written a definitive McCarthy story yet? Dog On Wheels playing right now... boy it really is a LOVEly song ;-) And was David being down on the song belle and sebastian? well it's worth it just for the line about being the only fun in town... you know it's true. the duke ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . OOH....guess what I was just thinking I would really like to read...and would be a really good thing to publish, ooh say on a website or in a posh "studey mag" that apparently IS going to happen this time....which would actually be a GOOD article...if not, I happen to know a fanzine that would be happy to take the definite McCarthy story...hello! :) I'M GOING NOW BYE!!!!!!
