Hey kids, Northy mentioned that he liked the tape tree tape he got in the mail and was going to buy black box recorder now. I didn't arrange the UK list, but did he get Ed Mason's tape? Because Ed sent me a copy of his for fun, and I was listening to the black box recorder song on it in particular and thinking, "gee, i should go buy this when i'm not poor anymore." it was a pretty fabulous tape all around, which makes me sad that i don't get to hear all of the UK tapes. Honey and Kevan, think of something! Also, there is another musical Adam Cohen (who has genuine talent), and he was lead singer/songwriter for San Francisco band The Mommyheads. Does anyone in the Bay Area know who I'm talking about? I loved them sooooooooo much, and the last thing I heard was that the band broke up, and Adam played solo at a recent benefit gig, and the crowd-pleasing song was "Nobody Gives a Damn About Your Band". All of their stuff is out-of-print now, but I was lucky enough to find two albums. Whoever gets to hear my tape in the next few weeks or so will hear a Mommyheads tune. In other Cohen-related notes, Jeff Buckley did an amazing version of "Hallelujah". (I heard John Cale's version and thought it RUINED the mood of Basquiat or whatever movie it was in - but then again, I have a definite Jeff bias). Arthur definitely needs a vacation. Leaving the country is the best thing you can do, imho, to sort yourself out. If you cannot afford this, try running away to another city (California is excellent for small roadtrips - I know) for a day or two. Staying at home makes you feel worse about yourself, and leaving somehow puts things in perspective. You will still feel like crap, but at least you will understand WHY you feel like crap and how to make it eventually go away. B&S content: I was listening to the BBC session of LLPJ with my sister, and then I played her the EP version so she could hear Monica's awful voice. Right before she sang, I kept saying, "Here it comes! It's so awful! Oh man!" and when she sang, I swear it was the first time I liked her voice. It didn't make me want to plug my ears. Monica Queen will make a liar out of me, she will. -Erin ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was brought to you by the Sinister mailing list.
