My copy of Telstar (b/w "Jungle Fever"!) came out in 1962, which would have made me 6 years old at the time.
More old folk - triple hurrah! All this Telstar talk has inpsired me to do a silly thing and make a list of all the "That song sounds just like that" comments I can recall or have come up with myself. So: Mayfly...'Telstar' - The Tornados Dog on wheels...'Alone again or' - Love Seeing other people... Peanuts theme by whoever Lazy line painter Jane... 'I can't stand it' - Velvet Underground (the intro, anyway - listen to it) Slow graffiti... 'The laughing gnome' - David Bowie The stars of track and field...'Shangri-La' - The Kinks The Boy done wrong again...'Pink moon' - Nick Drake (well he had to go somewhere) Hmmm.. haven't quite completed the Donovan Lovedrake triangle. Can anyone suggest a plausible Donovan song? Or any other daft comparisons? I think someone once came up with one for 'Le Pastie.." that I really couldn't see myself, but I've forgotten it. Sudden thought: people might get angry with me for doing this. Please understand that I mean no harm, am rarely seen sporting a cagoul, and don't think for one minute that Belle & Sebastian are shameless plagiarists who need exposing. This is my new defence against flaming - come over so wet in the original post that that the flames can't catch. Nick _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I'm not the only one who thinks this? A friend and I were so nostalgic after I taped him the song that we rented one of the Peanuts movies. The composer's name is Vince Guiraldi though I always misspell it.

A friend of mine was in a band that eventually many people in town came to like. He really didn't think he had much talent, and could pick out songs that he had subconsciously ripped off. So he came up with this idea to make a mixtape for all his fans with songs from their last tape album followed by whatever song it was that his song ripped off. It's a shame that he never got around to doing it. It would have been entertaining, to say the least... /"\_/"\_/"\ Mick McMick - mick@indiepop.com - ICQ#5056758 \ / Sandcastle Records - sandcastlerecords@indiepop.com | | Sandcastle Homepage - http://indiepop.com/sandcastle/ | | | | "Everyone has their own cup of tea. | | Some just happen to like a lot of sugar in it!" | | - Me! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . What about 'she comes in colours' by Love - the piano intro to seeing other people is almost identical to the flute bit half way through the Love song. Does anybody have the lyrics to 'the loneliness of the middle distance runner'? I've tried to work them out but they make no sense the way I hear them. bye bye, rob P.S. hi henry ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
