G, you're the best! That's it, we're going to write a script for our own tv show, starring absolutely everyone here. Yes, even you shy ones in the corner must have a cameo or two. I had this happen twice in high school, once with a darling Australian, and the 2nd time with a French boy who gave me nasty looks as he smoked Gitanes in the basement hallways. Anyone ever dream of running into the love of their dreams on public transit? Last year I was waiting for the subway, listening to my walkman and wrapped up in daydreams as usual, when all of a sudden a Cute Boy tapped my arm. I thought I must be in a John Hughes film! He asked what I was listening to. "Nick Drake", said I. "Who are they?" asked he. Then my heart sank and I knew it was not to be. I had my B&S mix-tape on the walkman today, actually, and when LLPJ came on I wanted to jump up and get everyone to linedance... Erm, thanks to everyone who's written about the Toronto picnic-- I'll set up a mailing list for us to sort things out. I would also like to add, you all get a mention in my memoir for ACTUALLY WRITING BACK TO ME instead of the list. In fact, I've seen none of that business on Sinister yet. Impressive! Which leads me to the misery I am experiencing at the thought of missing a picnic in Glasgow. Bethie (the arzy one!), let's quit our jobs and run away, shall we? A little secret: I've decided I need a holiday, and it must be done. Aiming for June, we'll see. I've settled on Glasgow and thereabouts, for I've not been since 1995 and miss it terribly. Everyone there, please invite me to tea? I know I've only been here a few weeks, but already I've gotten to know so many of you (esp. on irc) and it's dead cool. Holly may sneak along in my suitcase, though if they charge me excess baggage fare I'm afraid she'll have to cough up for it. One last thought: when listening to B&S, are you inspired to cook anything in particular? Perhaps everyone's not like me, but I tend to reach for the mixing bowls instead of a guitar. Things I have made with them as soundtrack: -- apricot buttermilk scones -- blueberry waffles w/ fruit salad & whipped cream -- roasted garlic, tomato & basil soup -- the infamous caramel brownies Note the tendency towards desserts! It differs. For example, when I have the soundtrack to "les parapluies de cherbourg" on (which I mention as I've been talking about it w/ someone), I tend to get rather gourmet and make portobello mushroom-white wine crescents. sweet tooth elisa xx (a.k.a. petula) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
