My favourite episode of "Rising Damp" is the one where Rigsby, following Philip's advice, burns some love wood to woo Miss Jones, and the wood turns out to be a piece of his own wardrobe. As luck would have it, I've got it on video, so I'll use it to test out this "how many times can you watch something before getting bored" business that has sparked such lively debate. You're all very slow on the uptake. Why, only last week I mentioned an obscure reggae performer in the hope that Hopkins would take the bait. Perhaps he was ill. Let's try it again: Everton Blender. Having recently regained my Rough Guide to Reggae I have lots of questions for Tim. For instance, what do you think of Joe Higgs's Life of Contradictions (with six extra tracks but crap packaging), or Scotty's Unbelievable Sounds or some Lee Perry compilation called Dry Acid or something (both on Trojan)? Thanks for all the Bill Evans talk. The one I've got is a nice Verve reissue with a little booklet too, which includes notes from the inventor of the Fender Rhodes piano, Han Solo. Michael, have your extra tracks got some bird counting at the beginning of them? Mine have. Speaking of Verve reissues, I can't recommend Marcos Valle's Samba 68 highly enough. No extra tracks, but his wife sings all the time. I hate Black Box Recorder despite never having heard them. Yesterday I went to our local airport to see the Rolling Stones land. They had a whopping great 757, presumably due to the size of their monster riffs, and it was all very exciting, especially when they all got off the plane. It might just as well have been the Beatles from where I was standing, they were miles away. I think I saw Ronnie Wood, but it might have been Worzel Gummidge. Have you seen that footage of The WHO getting off a plane in Sweden? Well, it was nothing like that. They didn't even go through customs, they were whisked off in a posh car, while their loyal staff had to go by bus. What a shame. I was under strict orders from 'er indoors to tell them that we had the Rock'n'Roll Circus video, but we prefer The WHO. Except for the last song. Speaking of The WHO, I was sent this yesterday: Fancy a holiday ? Friday 2nd July - The British Rock Symphony Roger Daltrey & Friends perform the music of the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The WHO, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Over 2 hours of the greatest rock masterpieces ever. Powderham Castle near Exeter. It sure beats All Tomorrow's Parties. I wonder who Roger's friends are? I wonder if Piezoleptic Unit will be in attendance? I think Adrian Evans will be there, he sent it to me.
