Hey kids! I'm glad the tape tree has been at least mildly successful on both continents. I love getting stuff in the mail! Someone else (Rich?) thought up a movie-suggestion swap, which would involve finding a partner. I think this is a very good idea, but how do we match ourselves up? A top five list of favorites might work as a footer, so then Honey will still love us. (If anyone on this list fancies "Ed Wood", "The Jerk", "Say Anything", "The Fisher King", and "Searching for Bobby Fischer", then you will be my new movie partner.) I always like looking at the DIDs (Desert Island Discs, for those living on deserted islands who wouldn't know this already) in Tower Records' Pulse! magazine. If I see a top-10 list with 4 or more that match CDs in my own collection, I will usually keep the other 6 bands in mind. Does anyone else do this? Even better than the DIDs is Jackson Griffith, senior editor of Pulse! I met him a few times, and each time I asked him what his must-haves were - so far, he's been dead on, so I always refer to his column when I need something new that I will like. (Just for reference, his last picks for me (before they were hits) were Tortoise's "Millions Now Living..." and Fountains of Wayne, and his last column that I read said, "Rufus Wainwright is a star." I think this partner thing could also be extended into books and even recipes. Not on the list, though - privately! Janine mentioned having a "special" diet, which I suspect is a vegan one, because she made gazpacho for the list picnic, and i feel her pain. Or, she could have the same rare disease that Ben Watt of Everything But the Girl had (did anyone read "Patient" - his fabulously detailed account of his hospital stay?). I think he said %75 of his diet consists of white bread. mmm-mmm-good. As for my B&S content, to all those people who requested a certain unnamed LP to be taped for them - they will all be finished by this weekend! Richard, I didn't forget you - you are first to leave the house. And please let me go on vacation before I tape any more - I am up to #12, and I'm paying for all of the postage (overseas, too) and tapes myself, because I love this list so much. :) And to anyone who has a problem with that - I will sic Ellis on you. Love, Miss Erin Douglas Coupland: "Life After God" Antoine de Saint-Exupery: "The Little Prince" Charles Bukowski: "War All the Time" Kurt Vonnegut: "The Sirens of Titan" J.Otto Seibold and Vivian Walsh: "Free Lunch" +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list please mail "sinister@majordomo.net".
