Sinister: Montreal and My Morning Jacket
Ok, so our eastern european jaunt ran into major problems so now we're headed to Montreal. If anyone on this list lives there, can you send me an e-mail? I have questions on happenings in the city. Now, I need to work on my frenchy. Has anyone heard of My Morning Jacket. I just got their lastest CD, it's really quite good -- I guess they belong in the Alt-country catalog to give you an idea of the sound. It's a mix of Johnny Cash, Americana, Luna/Galaxie 500 and in some places they sound like what little I know about Pink Floyd and Yes (longer songs that sound very different in some parts). Anyway, just wanted to share because I told a friend of mine about them (who's a big fan of Wilco, Uncle Tup, Whiskeytown, Ryan Adams, etc) and he immediately declared them his fave band once he bought their album and he's usually not easily impressed. Cheers, Sam _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/ +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org. Hello there, Well, apparently, the last email i sent didn't manage to cross the channel... Just wanted to ask questions about the london gig, saturday. My girlfriend and I will come from Paris especially for the b&s gig (and the shins, too, 'cause they definitely rock, don't they?) and we thought it could be nice to dance like soul kids at a special b&s party after the gig... So please, if some event of that kind is set up, will you let me know? That would be sooooo kind of you... Take care, good people of Sinister... Stéphane PS : btw, does the Sinister village still exist? ________________________________________________________________________ Delivered using the Free Personal Edition of Mailtraq (www.mailtraq.com) +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org. Hi Stephane and everyone else that's coming to London for the B&S shows! I can't help you with a party after the shows, but on Friday it's the latest HDIF, so we can act as a warm up! Hope you don't mind me posting this, but I thought I'd just answer Stephane's question. x -------- How Does It Feel To Be Loved? Friday July 16th Buffalo Bar, Highbury Corner 9pm-2am, £3 members, £5 non members Guest DJ: Chris King (Da Doo Ron Ron) indie pop, northern soul, tamla motown, sixties heartbreak Chris runs Da Doo Ron Ron, possibly the best club night in the UK. Their official website is down at the moment, but here's an old page of their that's still floating around in the ether. http://clubdadooronron.users.btopen...m/mainpage.html Here's an snippet from it: "The club's musical menu is a femme-centric celebration of 60's girl groups such as The Supremes, Ronettes, Marvelettes, Shangri-La's, Chiffons, Crystals etc, sassy soul sisters like Aretha, Dusty Springfield, Maxine Brown, Brenda Holloway and playful popstrels in the vein of Petula Clark, Lesley Gore and Helen Shapiro. You will never hear a male lead vocal at DDRR!" Should be fantastic! +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org.
