Marks and Spencer (or Marks and Sparks) is another department store, but without many departments. As anybody's mum will tell you, it is the greatest invention since the Queen Mother. If you buy a jumper from there you will soon see somebody else wearing the same one. How embarrassing! But if you buy your y-fronts from there, no-one will know, so you can enjoy their legendary value for money in peace. My dad wanted me to try and become a Marks and Spencers branch manager. I had never heard anything quite so ridiculous in all my life. The food's quite nice, but a bit expensive. They don't accept Switch cards. If you turn the tables round they will probably kick you out, or call the police pretty sharpish. I think the line should have been "turning a table half way round before the security guard pounces". When you are happy to wear Marks and Sparks clothes, you know that maturity is just around the corner. Do you know Nick Faldo, the golfer? He's a bit like M&S, a bit boring, reliable, and rakes in loads of money. They were also the first shop to stop selling things for X pounds and ninety nine pence, the one penny increase on evrything meaning increased earnings of several billion trillion pounds a year. Last time I was there, they had branched out into Wallace and Gromit socks. I think that's everything. Anybody else? Peter ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Nifty footwork AND a mention of Serge - full marks. Mick Harvey (Bad Seed) is releasing "Pink Elephants", a 16-track follow-up to his wonderful Gainsbourg covers LP in November. Includes Nick Cave and Anita Lane's "Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus". Stop. Belle and Sebastian. Stop. Paul ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
