Sinister: Other groups and two questions
Here are several french groups I can recommend : - Autour de Lucie, the both albums "L'échappée belle" et "Immobile" - Louise Attaque, fabulous - Tanger And a non french group i'm listening since friday evening when i bought it : The Verve : Urban hymns And now the questions : 1- When will 3,6,9 seconds of light be available ? 2- Why B&S is called B&S ? I knew a tv serie called B&S when i was a kid. Belle was a dog (a big one) and Sebastien a little boy. JPhilippe ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . Legend has it that the name comes from a story Stuart Murdoch wrote called Belle and Sebastian, but I'm not sure. I think it's because The Flashing Blade sounds a bit rude. Can you tell us more about the TV programme? I can't remember it. I think the new record should be out this week, but again I'm not sure. Just thought I'd answer because everybody else seems to be asleep at the moment. I think I'll join them. Peter ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . The TV show, as I saw it, was about a small child and his dog, roaming the Pyrenees...I can't recall the storylines or such, but that much I do remember...it was on quite a few years ago on Nickelodeon here in the States. Cute as hell, as I recall, very touching and dealing in very simple Odyssey-type excursions (i.e.--looking for their home)... Anyone remember the timetable of the storyline (I seem to think it was the 40's, but I'm probably mistaken)... Oh, as to the band listing, I'm afraid I haven't anything to add, since everyone seems more much worldly than myself...(I'm still mired in old R.E.M., Oingo Boingo, 80's stuff, swing stuff...) The few I can offer as my longtime faves are: --Little Jack Melody and his Young Turks (lounge/circus music, very fun)...I personally have "My Charmed Life" (Carpe Diem Records) and want to get the rest...oh, they're from Delton, TX...(link on my page) --Spirit of the West (Canadian pop/Celtic outfit that seems to have died out)...if anyone knows what happened to the group, let me know...I have their "Faithlift" and "Twoheaded" LPs, and wouldn't mind more... --R.E.M. (almost anything except Monster) Recent acquisitions that I dig: Amon Tobin, Talvin Singh's ANOKHA, B&S's IYFS (damned if I have money for more), Space's "Spiders"... *smirk* I have a feeling if I mention more, I'll fall into a deeply unhip hole no one's lower a rope to get me out of...;) --Steven *************************************************************************** Steven Goldman * * Box 22688 * Fun-lover, pop freak, sometimes * Emory University * DJ, and aspiring actor/writer/director * Atlanta, GA 30322 * * (404) 251-8310 * "Faith manages." * sgold06@emory.edu * --Delenn, "Babylon 5" * WWW: http://tswww.cc.emory.edu/~sgold06 * *************************************************************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- . I think that is a story like probably in 30's or 40's and it goes like this, There was a family of four - dad, mum, boy & dog in a quite poor village in Spain. One day dad died so mum has to make all the earnings for the family. She couldn't find the way to support family in this poor small village but someone(I think it was a village mayor of the richest family in the village or her relatives in France) brought her job in France(Niece or Marselle, I guess) to be a maid. Her boy & dog were left with dad's relatives. First 6 months or a year, mum sent letters but suddenly mum stopped writing. Boy gets worried so he decided to cross the border(Pyrenees) to look for his mum in France. Naturally, he met a lot of good/bad people on the way.... This is the basic story line I can think of from a boy and a dog crossing Pyrenees and a Odessey-type of story. If I am wrong, just foreget it. But the story I mentioned above is a quite famous story. Even I am a Japanese, I know it! Ta ta, Kaori ----------------------------------------------------------------------- .
