Obviously, it's neither big nor clever, but (a) they sound fantastic if you've, um, had a smoke: obviously so do most things, but there's something about the human warmth of B&S that really comes across if you're in a more, uh, malleable frame of mind. That's actually how I formed a sort of bond with B&S records, listening to them after I got back from clubbing. There's something about them that fits perfectly with that scenario, when you're alone and awake and it's that really hushed time outside about 4-5am. The sort of resigned sadness in something like Judy And The Dream Of Horses really seeps through, and the music's just perfect, really warm sounding... you do tend to be terribly receptive to emotional music in those circumstances.
