Sinister: Finally a face to go with your name.
I am a jealous individual. Providence, RI is my home. If I were living in Europe, I would be having the time of my life right now. I'd almost definately be at every picnic and B&S performance. I once told someone that if B&S came any where in the U.S. I'd already have my tickets in hand. Will they ever come here?!?!? I bought the new single on tuesday. Its incredible. Mine is a promotional copy. I'm not so sure it was actually for sale, but I convinced the guy from behind the counter that it was. So, as I have never come across any postings from Providence locals, I'll tell a little about this city for anyone caring to read. The city is small, its located on the east coast situated in the middle of the metropolitan cities of Boston and New York. The city has become more beautiful as time progresses. Our mayor is actually under endictment for laundering. This really surprises no one in the state since everyone here knows that we're a mob run state. So right now I'm not exactly making Providence sound too nice. But it really is. There are not so nice sections of the city obviously, but the city is renovating itself. The difference of this city in the last six years is astounding and we actually do owe it all to our corrupted mayor. There are public works of art located all over the east side and downtown. There are many green parks where these artworks are displayed. We have famous collegiate schools. Rhode Island School of Design. We also have the famed Ivy League school of Brown University. We have some nice record stores here, one in particular is overrun with pretentious assholes. I try not to enter that store. Another record store is owned by a nice kid named Al Barkley. Its a diy punk rock record store. He doesn't sell Belle & Sebastian but he does have the latest "the (international) noise conspiracy" record. We have these nice Ice Cream stands that sell DoleWhip. which was advertised as dairy free. Its this soft serve ice cream that apparently is made out of fruit. Well, finally someone decided to look at the ingredients a year later and found out that the "pasty-faced vegans" were not eating a vegan delicacy as it contains a sodium casinate...a milk derivitive. It wasn't a happy day in mudville after that. We have quite a few nice places for underground music performance. The most common for bigger bands from out of town is "Lupo's", and its more modest sidekick "The Met". The next best place to attend a great show is at Fort Thunder although..they might have actually stopped putting on shows. Its an loft in a huge warehouse building. The place is an incredible arrangement of anything they find, make, or break placed on the walls, floors, ceilings. It is/was the coolest spectacular live-in art space. I can't even describe it efficiently. I remember one time they hosted a halloween party with a maze as the entrance. This maze was so well constructed and to top it off they had different people with various analog/digital synths creating sound. the maze took us about 10 minutes to go through. Due to Fort Thunder not being able to put on shows, they have another smaller space called Munch House. I saw Calvin Johnson and the singer/guitarist of Wolf Colonel play there acoustic. We have the AS220, its more of an theater/poetry reading spot, than a place for bands. They have lots of different workshops, including a dark room, and there is always an art exhibit. Although I have seen many bands play there. Ida being the best. They are incredible live. Another place for bands to rock is in my friends basement. Its usually punk rock bands but still the kids are usually very friendly. Well...I've been sitting here writing for about an hour and the tenth time i've listened to "Sing Jonathan David" so i'm going to finish up before I stop liking this CD. I will end this story with my best friend jeremy, left me for Europe. I think he plans on living in Brussels. I told him that since he has the opportunity to see B&S...take advantage and send me something. If you see a nice lad by the name of Jeremy in Brussels...tell him I said I miss him. love, timmyhiles _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +---+ Brought to you by the Sinister mailing list +---+ To send to the list mail sinister@missprint.org.
